V8S and Nürburgring

I have done many bike laps at the Ring and was considering taking my V8S. As a test run, I did a few UK trackdays this year at Oulton Park and Brands GP, to see how the S would cope. Remember, one lap at the Ring is going to take about 10 minutes, so 2 laps is the same as a 20 minute session during a normal trackday. My S is fairly well sorted with roll bar & harness (vital at the Ring), Nitrons, 17” wheels, Wilwood brakes, ally radiator, 218 cam & chip. In terms of handling and braking, my S was fine. However, 20 minutes lappery saw the engine temperature close to red (despite the ally radiator) and the gearbox oil getting cooked. Yes, I am using Castrol SMX, which was noticeably better than whatever cr@p was in there before, but still the gearbox (perfect in road use) was getting more and more obstructive with the heat. Before I think about a Ring trip in my S I feel I need to address the cooling issue. The engine cooling is a matter of improved air flow. Gearbox, I am not sure if maybe it needs a cooler plumbing in, or even a rebuild?? Of course, one could just drive a bit slower, but that would be boring!
As a general comment, the Ring is a super trip to make but it is very dangerous. It is often over-crowded (too many Brits!) and accidents are frequent. Always wear a helmet. Personally, I would feel safer on my bike wearing my £1500 worth of PPE than in a TVR without a roll bar. Having said all that, when you get some good clear laps in, no track in the UK comes close.

Try riding a bike and you will see both sides of the story. There is good and bad driving/riding displayed by all concerned in such a free-for-all situation. Otherwise, please keep your insults to yourself!
Sorry but I have to agree...well sort of...on the bike front.
Even with my limited experience of the Nring just recently, the vast majority of the incidents that resulted in circuit closures were due to bikers coming off.
We as a group thought they could do with bike only days...ok wouldn't shorten the closures due to bikers coming adrift, but would make things more enjoyable for each on their respective days if it came to pass.

I assume its up on axle stands already Andy No not yet I haven't had the time.
I've bought a Wedge that I'm doing up, it want be a good as the V8S is this one will be used

I am planning to take my s3 there in april, and my bike in may.
I have been a couple of times before on my bike and seen both good and bad driving from both sides.
If your driving the ring please respect the other users limits. And dont condem people for there chosen set of wheels.
