Police over kill in the Brecon Beacons.

In summer one of the best things you can do is go for a run through the Beacons, as the hundreds of Bikers that do this all summer long will also agree.

But today the Police have started a major crackdown on all bikers, riding in this area.

From speaking to the bikers out today there were approx 5 or 6 speed traps in a 10 mile area, possibly more!

This is supposed to be part of a crackdown on bikers so they were also pulling loads of bikers over and checking all the bikes for number plates, tax, exhaust and a few other things.

The reason I'm posting this is that other bikers dont get caught out, as this is going to be an ongoing thing for a few weekends

Happy riding

I agree here, however you have to admit quite a lot of bikers dont do themselves any favours .. the road next to my estate is a 40mph limit... why because it is between farmland and an estate with 2 football fields. But Bikers regularly blast down there at 100+mph.

Also with number plates so small you can hardly read them, or illegal race cans.. they are just attracting attention.

I have a relative who works for South Wales Police (Traffic), he too is a biker, and is usually sumpathetic to the majority of bikers, but the minority as always create the attention, and blacken it for the rest.

Just recieved a letter in the post this morning.

Apparently I was speeding on the A40 up near the breacons this weekend.

Nice wide, Dual carrige way, Lots of visibility, Great weather, not many cars. Prime time for the Police force to make some money.

Why don't they put that mobile camera next to a school?!!!!
It might actually save a life there!

Bar Stewards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not so happy about what was a great weekend

Was that on the dual carrige way around Brecon south bound comming off the A470(not the Abergavenny road)? There was one parked on Sunday in a way to catch cars both ways and hidden if you were south bound.

Ive decided to take a leaf out of Darren's book and go for early morning blasts instead.. ok the tyres take longer to warm up, and the roads are cooler, but plod is almost certainly asleep.
I came down through Salisbury plain on the bike last weekend, no problems. Did the same route 6 hours later in the TVR and saw 2 speed traps.

It was on the A40 near Abergavenny. I accidentally turned south when I wanted to go north.

I was traveling southbound and they were parked in the layby on my side. Rear windows open (for the cameras I assume). They must have got me front facing. Unless they have a camera pointing out the front as well, but by then I am sure I was doing 70.

When I turned round and went passed them again northbound I was definitly doing 70.

I am going to ask for a copy of the evidence. Has anyone ever asked for and gotten the photographic evidence?

yep, I asked. And got. And got let off after 3 letters, and a court appearance. It is your right to see the photographic evidence - how else will you be able to verify it was you riding/driving?

If they won't give you the photos, write to them explaining that there is no way you can determine who was in control at the time - and that if they persist to withhold crucial evidence, that you will consider taking this matter to court and the very expensive lawyer you will hire will get you off on this technicality, AND charge a huge fee that the Crown will have to pay. AND get you expenses.

You can threaten them with a high cost trial. They usually drop the case after that.
