As per title really, a friend of mine has just asked this as she's clueless about digital cameras, I'm not exactly clueless but I haven't got a clue what one would be best for this budget.

Any ideas guys?

What sort of camera - point and shoot or something a bit more sophisticated?

If she's after point and shoot, I'd recommend the Ricoh models, but for 100 pounds, your choice is pretty limited. Pixmania have a sale on and have this model (I've no experience whether it's a good camera, but it's cheap)

Beware that when you're buying at cheaper prices, you'll probably not get a memory card, or a very small one. With a 3 megapixel camera you should probably aim for at least 256Meg, 6 megapixel, 512 meg. You can survive with less, but it's a false economy as you'll end up buying more/bigger memory cards eventually. Remember memory cards often live on beyond the camera you bought them for.

If she wants something more sophisticated, look on ebay for a second hand prosumer. I used to use a Fuji S602z which was an excellent 'bridge' camera - you could treat it like a point and shoot, or get some 'slr-like' manual control. It had excellent optics and whilst not as good as current models, is available quite cheap second hand.
