I just wanted a change after 14 years and 4 Esprits and where could I go with Lotus after a Sport 350 ? Wait for the new Esprit ? Oh yeah, wait for ever.....
So, after toying with a 996 I plumped for the Noble. Oddly, after the first test drive of one I did not think that much of it. But after a few weeks it started to grow on me. I don't really think you can tell what a new car is like on a 15 minute test drive.
Having had it for 6 days I can now say that I'd never again go back to an Esprit. The Noble is so much more modern for a start. The Esprit is 30 years old and it shows. I used to think the Esprit was an amazing car but the Noble just knocks it into a cocked hat ( whatever that means !! ). I'm fully converted now.

A 'cocked' hat is a hat with the brim turned up on three sides (e.g. the tricorne hat worn by officers in the American Revolution) giving it a distorted look. The expression comes from the expressing "beat into a cocked hat" where if you defeated your enemies you would beat then into such a small space (or pulp) that they would fit into your hat.
e.g.
"Why pummel and beat over again that which is already beaten to a jelly, jammed into a cocked hat, and flung into the middle of next week? Mr. Wick, Indiana, House of Reps., Congressional Globe, July 20, 1840"

I have an Esprit V8 GT and would like to say that figures differ according to what you read. The figures are from a V8 SE weighing 1380KG. A GT weights 1325 and the S350 weighs 1300 but on LEW they've don't know any better. Also a standard V8 runs half boost (0.35BAR) in first and second gears to saved the gearbox which is a weak point.
Mine's running about 400BHP, 50BHP up from the standard but I still have the weight compared to the Noble. Iam running on an aftermarket boost solenoid so I now have full boost in all gears.
Adrian (Snuffy) took me out in his GTO3 today and I have to say it was very quick. Power is delivered in a different way to the V8. It was a very nice drive, much firmer than the Esprit. I would say the Noble is more track set up than road and doesn't roll whatsoever.
The Esprit in the end tried to go more GT and comfort in the bid to try and get more customers (which didn't work).
