Info on classifieds

Anyone know anything about:

S3 on PH classifieds - £4,350, mica blue, needs dash re-veneering (does this cost much?)

S3 (Steve Reid) - £4,995, monza red, looks lovely

S4 on ebay - low mileage, looks top, not sure what reserve is but no bids.

Need to try one out to decide if I like the way they drive.

Dulford Automotive Ltd (Cullompton - Devon) (TVRcarparts .com) quoted about £ 350 ish for dash (and switch panel I think)replacement - plus VAT, early this year. Havn,t had it done yet, but saw one in their garage that was done, it looked great.

Steve Reid has forgotten more about TVR's than anyone will know (probably a few exceptions) and is a TVR nut. Sources nice cars generally and is good for bits and pieces. Nice chap to talk to.

The price for a re veneer is about right I spoke with the seller on this one when I was looking for mine and it needs a little more than just the dash.

Might be selling my s3 if you would be interested,burgandy mettalic,63k miles ,long MOT had out riggers replaced ,dash needs re veneering ,used daily,cheap at £3500 based in North West [e-mail],being replaced with S2000

Thanks for those kind words from V8Whiskey (at least I think they were kind-unless he was saying I am forgetful which is purely down to old age). The TVR market is very strange at the moment and does not seem to make sense. People seem willing to spend less than £4995 on "S" Series cars which are clearly in need of more attention than the sellers are admitting. The cost of a chassis repair on these cars can be astronomical and buying one with chassis problems is like writing a blank cheque, plus then while the body is off do you do all those other jobs.......... The "S" chassis is probably the most complicated chassis TVR have ever made when it comes to replacing tubes, so many different sizes and sections and potential rot problems in places you would never dream. Every post on here around this topic says buy a good chassis, buy a good chassis and yet many cars sold both on here , ebay and other sites seem to be bought by people who ask for the advice and then choose to ignore it. I suspect it is a result of people seeing Chimaeras at stupidly low prices but most of those you would not want to risk your life in and the cost of putting them right far exceeds the ammont you save by buying cheap--its not what you pay for it but what it costs you that is the real figure.
Its only my opinion but good S3's are the best and cheapest entry level TVR which are quick enough, come with the silly grin driving experience and are cheap (in relative terms) to keep on the road. If you remember that when you buy a 16 year old car everything is 16 years old then you will not go too far wrong if you buy wisely.
I can't believe my car is still here, it has a good chassis,tidy body in a good colour, lowish mileage,new manifolds and a stainless exhaust, tidy alloys and good tyres, good hood, tidy interior in a good colour, new battery etc etc..... At £4995 its a good honest car and it looks as though its going in the barn till spring and see if its worth anything then. sTeVeR
