How would I transfer the film on my mini DV tapes to a dvd?

Any help from the forum please?

You need to capture it via firewire (IEEE1394) into your computer and then use a DVD authoring program to create the DVD. Simply copying the captured AVI onto a DVD-R (or RW) will not allow it to play on a set top DVD player.

Most modern video editing programs have a DVD creation mechanism. If you want to go high end with animated menus, etc, there is Adobe Encore 2.0 (my program of choice, but not cheap)

One of this months Computer Mags has a front page proclaiming "put all your videos onto DVD!" Go and have a browse at WH Smit...sorry, the library.

Basically, you need to do Ernest says, digitise via firewire, encode it to MPEG2 and use a simple authoring programme to write a video DVD - things like Roxio will do it in a very basic way and you may be able to skip the mpeg bit as Roxio will convert AVIs for you.
