Does anyone know how much generally one would spend on torque tube and bearings for a 928 S4? One of my good friends has just been quoted £3000 from Porsche Swindon and she's finding it hard to stomach...

any help would be most grateful?

I had a reconditioned one supplied and fitted by Paul Anderson in Stroud with a service thrown in and a few other bits and pieces for £800. Paul is the best guy for 928's.

I'd expect that you could knock around £1k off the labour bill just by going to an indy rather than an OPC. Does it have to be done at an OPC???
Also, if no luck here try www.928.org.uk

i cant comment on the specifics of the question, but taking a car of that age 9and complexity) to an OPC is sheer unmitigated madness. for a start it is highly unlikely that anyone there will remember what a 928 looks like. Echo the comments above - shout INDIE!!!

RGA in Vauxhall have been advertising torque tube overhauls for decades !

They are based in Vauxhall and their phone number is 020 7793 1447. Tell them Henry from 911virgin sent you!

In fairness pretty much any of the specialists should be able to sort the problem out but they specifically advertise that job.

Another specialist who is always helpful is Jaz in Wembley. Speak to Steve Winter. 0208 903 1118 , again tell him I`ve sugested your friend gives him a call.

Hope that helps.

The £800 place seems good value, or try on eof the breakers, but obviously you would need to be able to fit it yourself.

Is she fit?

Great, thanks so much I've passed on this info and also for Paul Anderson in Stroud, which isn't too far from us.

And yes of course she's fit, goes without saying...she's one of my best mates so she's gonna have to be...

This is Pauls website www.928spares.co.uk/. In 928 circles he is considered something of a guru and he probably sees more 928's than anyone else in the country, he is also very good value. Wish I lived closer.

Paul is "Dr Anderson" in the 928 world. He's done stuff for me (heck I bought my car from him!). Top guy for knowing almost everything about the 928, just difficult to get hold of sometimes.

If nothing else, talk to him first before getting anyone else to look at the car.

Northways would be my choice & fairly close to Swindon, well compared to London anyway!
