Excess water !!

I recently had a new thermastat and housing fitted to my car(+ antifreeze). The mechanic asked me to keep an eye on the level of water through the expansion tank (tower). Having checked it once I topped up the level. After a 50 mile drive today (car was superb) I parked up at home, lifted the bonnet and got a fair amount of water (little steam)coming out of the water expansion tower.
Would you think this is normal ?
Temperture gauge was normal the whole time around 90.
It seems to me that I overfilled it ......would this make sense ?
If the car was overfilled would you expect this to happen or would you expect the excess to `steam off` on the run ?

Maybe you had/have an air lock, maybe there is something horrendously wrong with the cooling system and it overheated, maybe the cap just isn't sealing properly. Keep an eye on the temperature gauge first and foremost, then check the level over the next few trips until you know how whether it is losing water steadily and if so how much. Oh and which way round are the caps now, and which way round were they before this work started.

I just wonder if I was over zealous in my topping up !
Water level now seems fine without putting any more in !
Will hopefully take it out on Thursday for a good drive.
I do watch the temperature gauge and funnily enough it was fine when the excess blew off steam ! Might buy a new cap though. No harm in replacing it. It does look a bit old.

Just took the car out for 35 miles. Nice little engine warmer
Car runs perfect as ever and no steam/excess water but

Maybe that is that ?
But will check levels tomorrow once its cooled down.

but most likely it's because the OP is going through a diagnostic procedure and some of us are waiting to see what that shows up (as the OP suggests earlier with "well let's see" type stuff.

It does look like it's been an air lock and possibly some overfilling to start with, and it seems to have settled down.

If you ARE buying a new cap, make sure it's a long-reach one - the neck on the swirl pot is deeper than most.
