I have just replaced my bearing. There is no circlip, you just press the old race out of its housing in a vice. The other part number may be for the small nylon bush which fits between the bearing and steel column. In my case this was worn also and needed replaceing. The job took ages due to rusty bolts,inaccessibility and not enough hands. Good luck.

the reason I asked was a chap bought one on ebay awhile ago, so I mailed him to see if he would give me the part number,he replied with
"Bearing is FAG 6005.2RSR" I couldnt find that exact number on the internet but found fag 60052RSNR so sent the following email to a bearing comapany
"Hi ,I have a fag 60052RSNR,which I need to replace soon ,could you give me a price ,I can collect easily
PS whats the difference Mechanically between an a RSR and a RSNR ??? any help appreciated (I am told the one I have fitted is a 6005.2RSR but think he may have mis read it"
their reply was
"60052RSNR means circlip and groove, we have the item in stock. £17.50 plus VAT."
so presumably then the correct number is 6005.2RSR if there is no circlip.The one on ebay went at £30 or £32 which for a bearing that size is pretty expensive, out of interest what did you pay ???

I bought mine off a chap on e-bay who regularly advertises bearings. I believe I bid £16. The bearing came with 6 SS bolts which were a touch too short for my car. Bearing number is FAG6005.2RSR which was identical to the one I took out. I believe he currently has one for sale on e-bay.

6005 is a standard part available from a number of suppliers, the 2RS suffix denotes sealed both sides, N it has a groove for a clip, NR the clip is supplied with the bearing.
Take a look at the bulkhead bearing replacement tips on www.tvrsseries.com/. The bearing pictured there doesn't appear to have a groove for a snap ring and with it retained by the housing I can't see that you'd need one. In which case the 6005-2RS part is the one you want, theres a few listed on ebay for 2 or 3 pounds and up. A quick google shows them listed at motorbike spares shops and bearing distributors so you might be able to find one without going to mail-order.

This thread made me check the bearing in my S1 as I had some play in the steering column. Took it to bits, no bearing just a bush and it is shot. All came out very easily but them my car hasn't seen a salted road since 1991.
Check in the Bible and it tells me I should put a bearing in instead. After work tonight I purcahsed a piece of aluminium to make housing, a bearing (FAG 6005 2RSR) and 4 new bolts to hold it all in. Total cost $NZ13, about 4.50 pounds. I am off out to the workshop shortly and expect to have everything finished tonight except I am waiting for the Ford steering column seal.
The bearing came from a local bearing supplier $NZ6.80 (2.50 pounds)and should be no more expensive in England.

This is an easy job. TVR carparts supplied me a bearing, lovely looking turned bearing housing in alloy and the plastic insert that fits onto the triangular steel shaft/column and mates with the inner race of the bearing - - all for about £60 iirc.
It was an easy job to replace - just a bit of fiddling to get the steering wheel straight with the wheels straight. Having said that, it is easy to alter on the splines of the first UJ.
In my case the alloy housing replaced a crummy/distorted plastic jobby.Looks very pretty in my footwell now!

Nick is right. It is an easy job. My homemade housing is in with the new bearing. I had to wait till today to get the plastic bush that goes on the steering column as the nearest one was in Auckland, about 1500km away.
I still can't see why anyone would take the front wheel off as in the instructions.

Just in case anyone is after one Fast Track Bearings have them as NSK 6005 2RS £7.24 del'd to Manchester, very helpfull people, even stuck it on Ebay for me with a buy it now and accepted Paypal

I bought that part number on ebay a couple of months ago for £4.50 incl delivery. Haven't fitted it yet, mind...

Paid £2.23 inc postage for mine on ebay and I haven't fitted it either. When I took the top UJ off and had a closer look I noticed that there is a little bit of wear/play in the plastic bush but the bearing itself is fine. I have all the parts so I'll change them anyway but if I were looking for a quick fix I'd be tempted to shim the shaft in the bush.
I also noticed that TVR car parts sell all the bits; bush, bearing, housing, for £16. The housing only has 4 holes though, there's 5 on mine.
