Why has it all gone wrong?

The only people to blame for TVRs demise are Blair and Thatcher. Thanks to them British Industry is FCUKED.Mining, shipbuilding, textiles, railway[the only train to London is some tilting thing from Italy]and now today the steel industry. How many of the 24,000 Corus workers will be there in 12months time?.And finally the car industry[what a joke].All we manufacture in this country are kit cars,Bentleys and minis are assembled from boxes via Germany. All we can hope for is that if TVR becomes as big as Aston and Ferrari some production will end up in the UK.Long live TVR.[Dave].
Why is this our government's fault? Free market economy isn't under government control. Are you implying that the days of nationalised industry was better? British Layland, British Steel, British Coal. These industries were kept afloat by the taxpayers while the workers made cr9p product between bouts of industrial action. I am so glad I work in a market economy. I am paid because I create sufficient value to afford that pay. The only reason businesses are leaving British shores is because British workers want a better standard of living than their work can afford.

You forget that we have a big involvement in F1 and the world of motor sport in general the best engineers in the world are British.
Its got nothing to do with engineering-the F1 example is spot on.F1 is about calculated risk taking and commitment to advancing the state of the art-precisely what a lot of large UK companies are not good at.The ones that aren't risk averse do really well.
We have a firm grip on luxury products like high end audio with Companies like B&W,Boothroyd Stuart-Meridian,Linn building world leading products in the UK plus some really good niche electronics firms Like Wolfson,ARM ( who liscence rather than manufacture but are global leaders in RISC processors) and don't forget companies like Sunseeker who make the worlds most successful power boats.
What the UK can't seem to do is high volume low cost but I am sure someone will be along in a minute to say thats pant's and we are good at that too.
Where you get well run companies-Nissan,Honda for example,British production can compete.
What we are best at is whinging

Totally agree, motorsport is excellent, probably best in the world so why is car manufacturing so different. The government runs and manages this country and manufacturing should be high on its agenda. What happened to Great Britain? .I really hope TVR becomes a huge motorsport and manufacturing success, jobs recreated in the UK[Great Britain]and one day be lucky enough to have a Sagaris parked next to my Griff, even if its 50% British.Last year over 9,000 Bentleys were sold worldwide.Less than 5% parts are British. But lets hope NS sees sence and keeps it 100% BRITISH.
Finally workers did not make a cr9p product. The cr9p product was designed and given the go ahead by the so called captains of industry, probably the same ones who are running companies today, and market economies, dont you just love call centres in India????.Probably the same 60K per year people who designed the latest City Rover[How many have they sold?]!!!!!!!!!.Dont blame the workers, the fault lies elsewhere doesnt it?.[Devoted TVR fan]
