It's my birthday next week (I will be the grand age of 27) and I'm being pushed to decide what I want as a present. Things for the cars are a little expensive so I'm thinking of some kind of bike accessory- I have already have a basic computer but I was thinking of asking for a heart rate monitor watch, does anyone have any recommendations at the budget end of the market?

The alternative is some clipless pedals- I'm a bit behind on the technology of these as when I used to cycle a lot SPDs were pretty new. I guess once you buy the pedals, the shoes make the cosy pretty high...?

I guess shoes plus pedals = £100?
A simple hear monitor watch can be had for £15. Albeit I see ebay has them for 99p !

I had a look at the Bikemate computer and heartrate monitor on eBay for £25 but there seems to be variable reports on them.

Think the pedals and shoes will wait until Christmas then. Cheers.

I just bought a cheapo watch that measures heart rate, calories, above, in and below level, cals per hr etc etc.... I think it is excellent, especially for £15. Halfords had some reduced from £35 to £15 the other week.

Lights for the bike? Or one you can attach to your bag/helmet?
A nice camelbak? They are very useful!
A multi-tool?
A nice jersey?
Gloves?
Those sleeves you can put on when it's a bit cold, for both arms and legs? They are fantastic!

A good wicking base layer... Once you have one you never go back. Merino wool is fab, as are some of the more modern synthetic fabrics.

Not too much ££, fantastically useful, and women will be ok with buying it...
