So, it's in the Sun, do you think that's a bad thing or not?

Just can't seee the point of the thread with so many good debates going on at the moment! confused

I posted that because it was a totally new bit of news for me, if TVR had to go anywhere I suppose Bertone is not a bad thing, but can't see why that would make the difference between not selling cars and selling lots of cars. I would expect Italian labour to be on par with Britain so why not assemble them in the far east where it is cheaper in the first place but then again it was in the Sun.

Italy was mentioned in this thread,

As to Bertoni producing the cars, well regardless as to whether it's in the Sun or not it's pure speculation until TVR make an official announcement!

DON’T HOLD YOUR BREATH!

TVR have made a few statements recently that in hindsight, haven’t held water.

Yep could be a long wait, until then we will have to put up with articles in the Sun. If he has gone to Bertone though it won't just be for assembly it will be for styling aswell, perhaps looking at actually producing cars designed by them, very worrying.

Not sure I buy into this...

There is no reason why Bertone couldn't build a TVR-styled car (ie UK or wherever the design team will be based) although I would expect any deal like this to involve development as well.

Spyker have employed Karmann to do their production, and if it's true TVR have done a deal with Bertone then I could see this potentially being a very good thing for the cars.

I can't understand what Smolenski now owns and what he would take to Bertone/Ricardo ??? A couple of models (tuscan and Sagaris), a few orders (maybe) and the Speed Six Engine. He's lost his workforce...he never had the building at Bristol Avenvue ...there are no capital assets....So what's he got???...I think he's lost his customer base aswell.

Absolutely right. All he really has left is the rights to produce cars called TVR and he has screwed the brand value embedded in that by moving it out of the UK.

All this sounds marvellous, but why wait until TVR production has dropped to two cars a week and 250 workers are being laid off to put these marvellous plans into action. The income from building so few cars would not even pay staff wages so where is all this money going to come from. While the owner reputedley is extremely wealthy, there has been very little evidence of this at TVR.

If you were wealthy and you bought an old house in need of restoration, you wouldn't wait until it fell down and was beyond repair before you started working on it.

Also if allegedly TVR can't get parts because they can't pay their bills. How the heck are they going to get cars built because I can't see Ricardo and Bertone releasing engines/cars if they are not going to get paid.

Put a sock in it you doom monger, an Italian built TVR sounds good to me, I will definately buy one - Turin, Blackpool! they will sell thousands of Italian Tvr's, Blackpool is not exotic enough for TVR and never has been, onwards and upwards.

confused

If they can't sell a British built car to the British public, why are they going to buy the same model built in Italy?

People have not been buying TVR's because they have the wrong product.

A change of country isn't going to change that.
