I know this subject has been talked about a few times to say the least but I am just debating which one to get. Either the one from vegantune, faulks, noblemods or any other model that has been fitted, and what sort of difference in driveability and sound they make. Thanks in advance Greg

Cons? None that I know of.

Pro's? Much better though the gears, longer life for the turbo's.

As for which one? Well, I've got the Faulks, which is really a Forge one. It's fine, but it's probably worth specing a bigger spring than the standard one. AdrianW has the Vegantune one and that works well, and looks good, but is more £££ I believe.

Can't remember how much it was,it is very loud. I've got a question, I thought a blow of valve was used to limit boost and blew off excess pressure as in Indy carsand a dump valve does what we want, am I wrong? just to confuse this more the HKS dump valves are called super blow off Valves. Been meaning to ask this for ages.

I've got the Forge BOV with the yellow spring and the latest filter. Very helpful people - highly recommended.

Did you play around with different springs Richard? I got the spring tuning kit (all the 4 springs and spacers for £1 more than one string on it's own). Just need time to play now.

It was supplied via FP and Trevor told me it was letting off prematurely, if you pardon the expression. I rang Forge and they said I needed the yellow spring. Trevor fitted it so can't tell you what colour spring was it before he changed it.

It seems to work much better now but if after testing the different combinations you find a better option I'd be grateful if you let me know.

paperbag See, that's what happens when I try to type fast. Better get back to some high quality code generation. I.E some quick bodging.

Saves the Turbos, and the pipes don't blow off/blow up.

Adrian

The blow off valve (dump valve, super blow off dump valve, or what ever the marketing men want to call it) is used to release boost pressure when you take your foot off the accelerator.

This is how I understand it. When your hooning around at full throttle your turbo will be producing x amount of flow, that creates about 7-8 psi (3r) in the intake manifold. That’s fine; your engine will happily gobble up all this air. Any excess pressure is vented by the waste gate (another story). When you take your foot off the accelerator to change gear that pressure need to go somewhere, the only place it can go is back through the turbo. Worst case scenario is that this reversal of pressure will make your turbo spin in the opposite direction (not likely) but it will slow your turbo down. The effect is that your turbo needs extra time to spin up when changing gears and the extra wear and tear will shorten the life of your turbo.

A dump valve releases this pressure when you change gear. I think there are two types, Vent to Air (does what it says on the tin) or Recirculation (recalculates the air back into the intake somewhere before the turbo).

Agree completely - great bunch of guys. My old standard spring presumably weakened with wear and was letting pressure go on the first hint of acceleration - with the yellow spring and new filter all is much better

So do I understand it that I should change my spring and filter on my Faulks BOV? Who do I need to contact and how easy is it?

Thanks

Bondy

Cheers Richard, any idea what part number the Faulks Std BOV is.

Also I think you should get a camera set up like Paul, I'm itching to see some footage of your beast (the M400 obviously). Seen it at plans a few times but I want to see it go.

P.S. you going to do the Muppet wall?

Just phone up Forge and tell them you have the FP version, that's all I did. Either get the pack of springs/strings(!) and experiment or just get the yellow one.

I guess a camera setup would be fun. I've stayed away from it because my head is already full of stuff to remember at the start of a race; I'm a newbie and my brain is overloaded before the lights go out ... hell it's another switch to think about and I have trouble remenbering to switch on the DL1 data logger. I'll see what I can come up with (i.e. nick some ideas from Paul again).

The Muppet wall would be nice to do, if only to play with the settings on the Ohlins, but Plans is a long way away from me so it's a case of fitting it in.

Has anyone tried a recirculating diverter valve?

I'm interested to know the pros and cons of this against a dump to atmosphere valve. I assume it is less noisy, but are there any other advantages of putting the air back into the air intake system?

I think it is a performance disadvantage as the air is already hot through being compressed once. (On my MR2 it used to add it back to the main air box)

Thanks for your quick response people I think I will give vegantune a call, like the idea of it being fairly loud and will also get the chromed hard pipe kit fitted at the same time bling, bling. cool

Big challenge is to get as much cool air into the engine as pos - do you think that the chromed hard-pipe is going to help or hinder this? I would have thought that it conducts heat (in) much more efficiently that the less bling rubberised hoses. Just a thought.
