Chimaera & Cerbera prices
Discussion
I think to a certain extent it's like the Griff. Griffs have been holding their prices for a long time cause they are almost the modern day 'definitive' TVR..
I think the appeal of the RV8 growl & Torque plus an open top, not to mention relatively reasonable maintenance costs & good luggage space make the Chim a good prospect to the masses as an every day car.. (hence i have one!
)
I think rightly or wrongly, the Cerb has a less widespread appeal due to its more extreme nature, being a hard-top and Mr&Mrs Average being a little nervous of a TVR own V8 engine on the running cost department.. The Cerb is a cheap Supercar after all.

Yep did notice as i now have a 11 week old son ,so started thinking about extra seats , but don't fancy engine rebuild and don't like the sound compared to the RV8. I think also its now tricky with the baby seat laws.
Just a quickie on the 'Rebuild' issue..It really doesnt apply in general to the AJP8. I have been doing alot of research on the AJP8 engine as i've always fancied a cerb. and to be honest, overall it is a tough engine. If you get a nice 4.5 with all the necessary ongoing maintenance done you shouldn't have any major worries.
That said and done, you still have to face facts that the annual servicing bill is likely to be a good percentage dearer than a Chim or Griff. But if you bought a Ford GT you would expect dearer servicing than a Focus ST.

AJP8 4.5
Not much wrong with a post 97 4.2 AJP crank, only an issue with some of the early cars.
Also a well cared for and set-up 4.2 is more user friendly around town and through the revs than the 4.5 variant.
Most AJP V8's are bulletproof....unfortunatly like most things this doesn't mean Numptyproof...ie revving its nuts off when cold and excessive engine breaking.
Before this Summer's Le Mans trip I had an engine check-out and set up by someone outside the usual TVR circles, but used to rebuilding and setting up more advanced racing engines. Ex F1 and LMP stuff. Taking into account my engine is approaching the 40K mark, and allowing for wear and tear it still achieved 347 BHP and a full 360ft/lb torque upto 7150 rpm before it stopped making power. With this in mind I was happy to unleash its full potential on French roads and on the Track at Le Mans, speeds reached were well off the clock and we topped out at 191 mph (GPS) on Mulsane.
Yes the prospect of a Cerb can be a scary proposition especially on the pocket, but I truely believe you can not even come close, yet alone match it for performance and looks for anywhere near the cost price.
Maybe one day we will see another V8 flagship back in the range.

Cooky is spot on.
Hopefully its only a matter of time before people realise that the Cerb was a real high point for TVR, turning to their own engine for the first time and really making it work. Too many people seem to be missing out on the Cerb experience, I feel sorry for them all...

Yep i agree..
But regarding pricing, the ill informed general public will no doubt think the worst regarding TVR's own engine.
I do personally believe the Cerb is truelly underrated by all but the privileged few..
Still, its great for buyers.. bit of a p!sser for those trying to sell for fair money though.

Makes it easier to justify keeping it though.
Every cloud...Only justification I need is to watch JC's Top Gear Supercar Shoot-Out
and to the look on a Porker or Fezza driver's face when you smash his world apart out-grunting him topside of 140 with still more pedal travel to come than you could even begin to believe.
Cerbera's .....I F****G LOVE 'EM
