Engine Mounts RV8
Discussion
Did anyone get anywhere with sourcing upgraded engine mounts? or recommend anyone that might be able make some
My car has eaten it's second nearside one this year
It's split/ripped away near the outer rubber to metal part of the mount.. Will post a pic later, if i take it off today.
Yesterday, thought i better do a few fast pull aways in practice for Santa Pod today & teaching those Cerb's a lesson
had only done 4 and then mount went with the usual damage to the swirl pot neck

Posted in the Engine forum as well, if any responses i'll link across

If they are the Rover V8 ones you can use the Jag V12 ones - these are stronger.
OR www.qtservices.co.uk/ these are what we use on comp Land Rovers

Any idea why yours failed so quickly? I wonder if it's possible it was installed out of alignment so that the rubber was pre-stressed? Or have you just been brutal with the clutch too often?

Hi Pete, previous ones fitted by an engine builder, last ones by me... Dont really see how they can be fitted that far out of alignment to cause a problem!!
I'm sure Andy (kinec) mentioned he has to change on a regular basis as well, perhaps its the cars that are putting out factory figures or better that are having problems...
Surely they should be able to cope with the occasional fast pull away
I must admit I do have lots of pork to play with round our way
You don't have to change them if you wrap them in heat proof reflective material to keep the exhaust heat off them. A 5 litre engine will lift the nearside mount apart if it's failed (the gearlever moves towards you lol!) .. but it's not violent and certainly not enough to tear the mount unless there are other influences like heat damage.
Raceproved are making some stronger mounts though if you can get some cheapies on in the short term to tide you over .. once fitted and protective-covered they should outlast the rest of the car

& thank you for being more constructive than that bloke (that drives like a girl) who is collecting Griffs
He's just trying to get his own back after you scared Him with your Roundabout/Twistys Driving Skills, I heard the elevens werent the only marks left down that day

Forgot to add
There are a couple of diffeent ones about, maybe yours are the cheaper ones.
I got mine through a guy on e-bay that sells thems a Rover V8 engine mounts. they dont have the buldge ontop like the originals or the e-bay link shown above which is RPI Engineering ( so would have thought good quality ones).
Rimmer brothers also do them. Not sure which shape ones they are, but like I say there is defiantly a couple of drifferent types. If they are the flat ones like mine then I must admit they dont look as good a quality as the originals, time will tell with mine though. runs of to check now after Vmax last week, hope its not a
