misfires

hi all loads of problems with car,help would be appreciated. backfiring when slowing down ,engine cuts out and hard to restart.when accellerating engine chokes and no power when pressing accellerator, in traffic car chokes ,lurches ,backfires cuts out ,apart from that alls wonderful any ideas?fitted a new throttle pot but problem still there ,also cleaned idle speed valve,and fitted new magnecor leads. .

Fuel Pump???

Speaking of fuel pump, how hard is it to access it and give it a clean if it is possible?
My S seems to take ages to start sometimes and I wonder if there is some depot in there...

will give the fuel pump a look this weekend and change the filter.bit of an awkward place though isnt it.

Try cleaning the sensor wire in the AFM, gently with carb cleaner and a cotton bud, see before and after photos, otherwise disconnect the Throttle Pot. You can run quite happily without it, I have for the past year.

Dont know on an S ,never had to do it (Yet) but there is a filter in the system somewhere which may need cleaning. Im sure someone will kindy enlighten us both as to their whereabouts.

There is another filter inside the tank on the fuel pickup pipe.

checked the timing, ok,changed the filter ,had all the throttle body of cleaned everything,when`t for a run saturday doing about 70 engine coughs and will not rev,great ,so prob still there.do not have air afm`s on my car so nothing to clean there.

just a few thoughts
2 things come to mind ,an air leak to manifold but more so I still think the fuel has a delivery problem, you've done most else ,can you get to check the pressure from the pump or get a garage to do it,also check the feed pipe to the pump it is not unknown for the internal lining of fuel and hydraulic lines to collapse inwards ,this gives a resultant decrease in flow through them untill the demand is dropped ,then they open up again for a while untill they get another constant demand and slowly (or sometimes quickly) close up again causing starvation.Its times like this when you wish something would break altogether ,then you could find it easier.Does your pump run constantly or does it run to a set pressure then stop and await a drop before restarting ,if its the later constant type ,ignore the pipe collapsing scenario as it would collapse and stay collapsed.
