Mini as a track day toy?

Will they be quick enough for hanging around car like pug 205 etc?

I have a 1993 mini cooper SPI with hif44 carb fitted. it pull stronly until 5,000rpm. then power tail off easily.

I dont want to drive around parade lap and wave.......... (that what lots of mini owner doing at show)

i have 10" wheels with Cooper S brakes, running on A008's. I will be fitted upgraded dampers, new cones, and fixed -1.5 camber lower arms.

What is most esstional track day mod to mini? or shall i buy other car like pug 205

I would get a beast with a huge engine, a real huge barge, strip it out and that way if you trash it, you won't be heartbroken. Something like a Jag XJ12 put some rubber down!

I've been thinking ever since I past my test on doing a track day in my mini. The trouble is I would be nervous of holding people up in the straights by getting in the way and also by the thought of smashing it (which leads to a concern of my own safety).

Whats it like for people who have participated in a mixed track day session in their Minis?

you wont have any problems, most people in bigger cars accept that minis will corner faster than them, sure they wizz past on the straights.

dont forget that proper track days tend to attract decent cars, which usually suggests that the drivers actually care what happens to their machines.

i did a track day with the ph north east tvr lot last year and had a great time. the cone was there as well with a few minis and we managed to both surprise and earn the respect of all the tvrs and what not that ran in our session.

the most horified guy was a man in a porsche 944 that i lapped twice in one 20 min session. he was driving to his limits and was 'man enough' to not behave like a cock when minis came looning up behind him.
