Just had an upgrade to 520 bhp, but the car feels slower. From third gear up the turbo's seem to spool slower, any idea's.

The bigger the turbo the more lag there is. Someone correct me if Im wrong (I don't have a 911 turbo, I don't even have a car!!)

No lag at all, due to fitting Europipes. I am comparing from how it was before the upgrade

X50 already has K24's as standard, so lag shouldn't be noticable (compared to before)

Yip! confirm the upgrade.

Did you confirm stock X50 prior to purchase, I have heard of this done before, upgrading a car that has already been upgraded (you think is stock).

To be honest there are lots of factors, boost leaks, wastegate actuators, maf, etc, etc.

What boost are you reading? and is it consistant?

I am getting 1 bar boost, rev limiter has been raised to 8.5K. I bought the car new with the X50 upgrade pack. So it was 450bhp. The upgrade I had last week was to 520bhp. But the car does not feel so quick as it did prior to the upgrade. Will take it back tomorrow to the dealer and see what the say.

Sorry for typo, Carrillos.......lighter, stronger connecting rods between the piston and crankshaft to cope with the higher revs.....
I would have thought 8500 rpm was quite a step up from the standard Turbo rev limit with standard componenets....my experience of Turbo lumps is more torque increase than power that far up the curve.

who fitted this upgrade, no way should you raise the rev limit to 8500 rpm, your engine is going to go bang very soon if you go anywhere near that redline.

would rather keep the dealer out of the conversation at the moment until I have had a chance to speak with them tomorrow. I am very interested in your comments. I will check that this is what is happening with regards to the rev limit tonight to make sure I have my facts straight before going loopy! What are you basing your comments on, who told you that you need new rods if you raise the revs?

Ask for a dyno sheet before and afetr

8.5k sounds very high as others have said why bother on a turbo car ?

My tt (non x50)was upgraded to just shy of 500bhp a few months back, turbos spool much faster and torque increase across the rev range much better. Also boosts to 1 bar but i certainly see no need to take it beyond 6000rpm and the thought of 8500rpm sounds bloody scary and potentially expensive.I thought it was only jap bikes that were comfortable at those sort of revseek

Speak to a couple of decent tuners and ask them what they would suggest for your engine internals, if you wanted to rev your TT up to 8500 rpm.....don't go back to the guys who did your work and say, you read it on a car forum.

I think you may well have misinterpreted something,,,,that would be quite a map giving power and no lag all the way up at those revs!

I'm with the other guys on this, NO WAY should a Turbo rev to 8500rpm, even the new 997GT3 only revs to 8400revs & that has titanium con rods, blue printed internals etc etc, & less torque to deal with!

Please be careful. As other people have said 8500 on stock internals is asking for expensive trouble. The 996 engine is built to take higher revs than the air cooled engines but 8500 is excessive in the extreme. I would also doubt that there is any point in these revs as the standard cams (I assume the cams are standard??) will be way past their peak power. What about the intercooler, the injectors and all the other stuff that needs changing to give reliability at these power levels?
I suggest that a reliable and honest 520 bhp is difficult and expensive to get. You really need to ask some probing questions of who ever did the conversion.

Good luck!

Richard.
