I am about to do a track day in a 944 Turbo (Silver Rose Spec)(I am not a track day virgin but have only done a few) and would like some advice on brake pads. The current pads are standard items and are about 50% worn. I am sure that I will have to change these in order to do the track day but I'd like to be able to drive the car to and from the track (90 miles to Silverstone) and do the track day without having to change the pads again on the day or before I drive home. Is this possible? Any advice on what pads to go for?

Pagid Blues RS2-4 are ideal. I use them on my 968CS to and from the track. They have a very nice feel to them.

The RS29 Yellows are a bit too hard for road use but I have just driven to Spa and back on them in the RS.

EBC yellows are another alternative. They are cheaper but I have not tried them. The EBC reds were not recommended for track use but they worked OK when I tried them.

Textar OE pads were ideal for road use and held up for a good few track days too.

You should make sure your fluid is up to it. ATE Racing Blue is cheap and does the business.

I use Performace Friction 97 pads which have proved pretty good.

I manage around 100 laps of the ring per set.

They do however, mean my wheels need a refurb and the side of my car a bit of a T-Cut.

I went from EBC Red to EBC Yellow - now they stay in the car all the time. Great for the track, squeek a bit round town, which doesn't fuss me.

I've always used standard pads on my 944T and find they last about 4 track days and 10,000 road miles. Your half worn set should easily last you to Silverstone and back including track time but if you're at all worried a new set are only £38.50 from German and Swedish (part no P64029)

me too, noise and dust is minimal, very minor squeaking when warm.

Initial grab is excellent, especially for a pad of this grade and is no worse than OEM. Performance seems great too but I've only used them on the road and I never fade any sort of pads on the road anyway.

Going to the ring soon so will report back.

Yup, Performance friction pads EAT wheels - lots of dust which is very aggressive.

In my experience you shouldn't mix pad materials on the same disc or you'll get warping.

If this is just for a single trackday you might try simply using a brand new set of OEM pads - they'll probably last the distance - I'd say more important is your fluid - get some Castrol SRF in there.

I would agree with a previous poster, your half worn standard pads should be fine.

Thanks for your inputs - I'll check the existing pads again and perhaps just change to something else on completion.
