in a nutshell - its a method of 'blipping' the throttle during a downshift.

This has a couple of effects

It stops a jerky 'engine deacceleration' as you go from 1-3k in [say] 4th to 6k in 3rd - and thereby means during heavy braking and engine braking, the car is more balanced and controllable.

It's also handy for the gearbox, spinning all the cogs up from gear-to-gear, thus preventing grinding of the gears or straining the synchromesh

Here we go again!

Do a search of the forum mate. You may unearth one of the funniest/longest/most frustrating threads we have ever had on here.

oh please no, not again!

on 8th dec 2005 I posted the same question under the title "what is this heel toe stuff". it generated an almighty spat/name calling session amongst the PH boy racers and rapidly ran to 15 pages.

use the search function to read that post. but make yourself a nice hot coffee first and take the phone off the hook - you'll be a while

One of the reasons that we did our in car footage at brands was to show a working example of heal and toe.

Here it is; www.total911.co.uk/brands.asp

Hope it helps.
