i havent perused my old favourites list of dealers websites for a good many months now (having no need) but in an idle moment yesterday I had a good old trawl. this time last year 964 were retailing at about 16-21K (RHD) going from ropey to garage queen. Now I see that the garage queens have gone up but there are some fairly decent looking RHD examples at 10-11K. Of course I accept that a website blog fails to tell the whole story but for example eporsch have some tidy lookers at 11k and at the other end Malton and Paragon have some 21-23K examples. thats a spread of 100% or more with, on paper, not a massive difference in spec/history/condition....

I've been keeping an eye on the market lately - can't say I've seen any thing at the usual places for much less that 12k

had mine up on comm sale at eporsch earlier this year and it didn't shift at £12,500 (it is a left hooker)

searching ebay on completed listings tends to throw up anything from 9-17k but most importantly few are reaching their reserve - indicating unrealistic expectations from sellers.

The reason for the great spread between the 'hounds' and the 'garage queens' i would say is partly down to the erstwhile reputation for niggles - you could easily spend half the cars value on an engine rebuild if you are unlucky and this in itself will depress prices - though to be honest, my experience is that as long as the motor has been looked after they're really fairly bombproof cars and represent something of a bargain for those looking for a 'classic' 911 look with a more modern drive.
soapbox

(mine for sale shortly) about 11k

i recently bought my first porsche, a 964 C4, for 14,800

it's in brilliant nick esp given its covered 150k in its 16 years. body work - great, engine - full rebuild 2k ago inc clutch, flywheel, top end etc..

also cup alloys and teardrops, fastidious history, and it all checked out with CCI.

looks stunning even if I say so myself. lovely!

Funnily enough, I posted a similar comment earlier in the week: www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?t=312558&f=48&h=0

A friend of mine has been hunting for a 964. He looked at a handful of £11k-£13k RHD private sale 964's, most were dogs that needed £5k+ spending on them to get them sorted. Our conclusion was that quite a few people had bought them to get the whole Porsche thing out of the system, ran them for a year and spent the minimum amount possible amount on them. I think this partially explains the spread in pricing. There doesn't seem to be many really sorted 964's for sale and when they do come on the market they shift really fast.

I think Eporsch might be the exception. My mate ended up buying the Amazon Green 964 that they have on their website last Saturday, I was amazed what good cars Roly had at low prices.

so you did, missed that one, apologies therefore for a dull repeat! I do agree about eporsch however, there is a fair spread of engine-rebuilt cars there in the 14-15k mark. as winter descends and the justification for a soft top gets weaker and weaker, i do find i am browsing there more often...

I'm probably biased but I do think that the 964 is a true bargain at the moment. I really do believe that the 964 is an undervalued car. I have recently driven a 993 worth approximately 65% more than my 964. Sure it was marginally more refined and I agreed with all the good comments that have been said about this car. But was it 65% better, in my opinion possibly up to 20%. So surely 964 prices have to firm up soon?

while i was looking i saw the whole range from 11k 3.2's to would you believe an 18k 993 (with stellar mileage for a 10yr old). The 964 i bought whilst high on miles is bang on and wont need that dreaded 5k spending on it (which is good). equally i saw a load of mixed bag early 964s for 12-19 thou, targas and tin tops. 15 seemed a nice place to settle. What else can you for that money that puts as many smiles on your face (other than a room at playboy mansion for a couple of days, but the porsche should last a bit longer)?

heh heh - quite agree with the sentiment which makes snapping up my car something that should be done sooner rather than later for someone looking for a sorted early 964.... before they start to go up in value .... honest hehe

hell, they only made about 2000 K series 964 C4's with light weight flywheel...... surely it's the next 1973 RS?

ok maybe a little onn the lardy side..

hehe

you see them all over the place as far as prices go.... I was at an H+H auction about a year or so ago and a really nice 964 C2 Cab with about 100k went for £10k. That was good value I think... on the other hand you get complete dreamers who think that they have the crown jewels: for example there is one which has been advertised on here which has done about 180k miles, is white, bit scruffy looking IMO and he wants something like £17k for it!

What do you reckon I should advertise mine at? I'm thinking of selling it soon.

120K, perfect oil pressure, no smoking, engine feels as strong as an oxe so doubt there is any cylinder leakage, was rebuilt I believe about 30K ago (top end) and had clutch 10K ago.

C2 Cabrio, Black with Black. German car LHD. 1991. Good overall condition, not messed about with unlike most, still on D90's and flag mirrors while not to everyones taste at least its original.

New brakes all round, decat pipe and original cat. Paintwork is in fair condition, nothing majorly wrong with it but could do with a good machine polish and zymol.

Basically just a good honest 964, gets money spent on it when its needed, unlikely to throw up any problems for a buyer, would really suit first time porsche buyer.

Any ideas? 13K?

about 4p and you'll still see all the to**sers saying " I'm looking for a 964" but won't bother to get of their arses and do anything about it. Good luck selling it.

I my RHD Targa in July in similar condition to yours with less milage for £12K

You're selling a LHD convertible at the end of summer. My advice is to ting around a few traders, then advertise it for £2K above whatever they offer, but be prepared either for a low price or a long wait.

Took me 6 months of searching earlier this year to find a decent RHD C2 manual coupe, most of the ones i looked at were over 16K. I don't think much has changed with the market since.
