Hi all,

That nice chap Martin is kindly taking a look-see at my Tuscan tomorrow so can't wait for the prognosis. Nothing major really, just checking the valves/tappets etc (bit noisy up top ) and hopefully getting rid of a really annoying vibration under the car when I come off the rev's in 3rd or 4th at about 2700rpm - hopefully just an engine mount that has collapsed a bit.....*fingers crossed*. A few other bits and bobs to look at too. I'm only round the corner from them but this is the first time that they have actually had it in to check it out so I am a small bit excited to actually see under the bonnet myself!

Martin - top man, I'd 3rd that.

Spent ages with me trying to track down a curious vibration in my Griff, we found it in the end, I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Racing Green with a guy like him there.

Thanks for the votes of confidence guys.

John - was the vibration hunt recently? Martin did mention that there was another car he was due to look at that had a similar vibration query as mine. What was the solution in the end if you don't mind me asking?

Cheers

Agree with all your previous comments about Racing Green, top blokes, bow Martin is always willing to spent a bit of time with me explaining something to me if I want to do something myself. I have no hesitation in taking my car to them any time.
Andy, is it you I see occasionally on the Farnham / Fleet road. Never seem to be in "The Beast" when I see you
Hope RG get you sorted driving cloud9

Couldn't agree more Chris - just picked up my motor and spent a good hour yesterday talking with Ray whilst he had the cam-cover off and another hour with Martin today talking about this and that....anyway, top-end cams, followers etc are perfect 20Kmls and no signs of wear at all, which is nice. The valve gaps were not too far out so 6 new shims and o-rings and that was about that.

One thing though - they could not find anything causing the excessive vibration when I drop off the accelerator in 3rd/4th at around 2400-2700rpms. Exhaust is not fouling and engine mountings are fine. Really strange one this, I am keeping an eye on it but it is really annoying. Perhaps it is "just one of those things..." but any input from here is appreciated.

Chris - could well be me. I live in Frimley and am often out and about around here, Camberley, Farnham, Farnborough etc, etc. OO51 TVR plate so gimme a toot/flash if you see me again.

Cheers

Andy

PS: As an example of Martin "going the extra mile" - he sussed the reason for what I consider to be excessive engine noise when in the cabin (reason I thought the top-end needed looking at in the first place). With some time and a stethoscope (!) he reckons the bottom middle section of the windscreen under-seal is not sealed properly allowing more noise than normal into the cockpit. Gonna see if I can prep the insurer for a replacement windscreen and get the guys to cut it out and re-seal (and hopefully not break it...)

Andy,

My vibration issue was on a Griff and not related to yours. It turned out after much really sueful help (all FOC) from Martin to be a loose penny washer in the inside of the door frame.

John.

I found I had a new vibration at certain revs after a new clutch was fitted.. guess that may be the balance was different to the original..

Very heavy those clutches.

Funny that, I was wondering if it might be drive-train or clutch related. I reckon my clutch is on its last legs as it is so maybe when it gets changed the vibration will disappear (or move/change...)

Cheers

The Cerb seems to have a natural resonance in the exhaust at certain rpms, perhaps the Tuscan is the same?

Hi Steve,

Yes, I am starting to think that this is the case. Perhaps, when I do manage to meet up with yourselves and the rest of the Surrey lot (eventually ) I can show you what I mean. Off to Liverpool/Dublin next weekend so will see how we go then,

Cheers
