Wiper Switch Question

Does anyone know how to change make a cycling switch from a momentary switch. i.e

press once for low speed
press again for high speed
press again for off

I recall reading somewhere that this can be done with a relay but cant find the link.

Don't have your answer but something for you to think on.

The wipers are not nice in operation due to the extreme curvature of the screen and the distance they have to travel. This makes the whole operation a bit of a clatter so the tendency is to use them as little as possible. In the UK we have a product called 'Rainex' which when applied to the screen changes the surface tension causing water to form beads and run of in the slipstream. As long as you are up to about 50mph you do not need the wipers at all unless the rain is just a fine mist.

Now to the point. Whatever switching arrangement you have you will want the ability to select a single wipe as that is what you will use the most. If you really want to get smart then an adjustable intermittent timer would be best.

Funnily enough, Clive and I were discussing the 'clattering wiper arrangement' just the other day and he thought that if the blade was able to swivel as it reached maximum extension both left and right, this might alleviate the problem somewhat. A pal of mine has a wealth of experience with this type of thing and when he returns from Germany where incidentally he has been working for BMW on a new Mini project, I intend to broach the subject and maybe come up with some type of solution.

Not sure about the Momentary switch doing all the operations, but I did fit a Momentary switch that would do a single wipe of the screen. Sounded easy but to figure out the wiring took 2 heads 4 hours to work out... if you get it wrong you can overload the system and burnout the motor..

If you want I can explain how to do this..

I contacted them and they said they dont have one that will do what I am asking. How does your switching for low/high speed work?

Sorry looks like I miss read your post. I should have said a bit more. I have the control stalks from an Escort for indicator and wiper controls, but I couldn't get the delay wipe to work so I fitted this box of tricks to control the delayed wipe plus it gave me a wash/3xwipe as in modern day cars.
