Question for those classic Ferrari experts.

How much for a complete respray, from white to red, of a 308? And, will it affect the value?

Thanks

Alex

In my unprofessional opinion, it would definitely have a negative impact on the value of the car. This would effect the value of any car, but particularly a Ferrari. My guess for a total respray (dependent upon bodywork condition) £6-8000.

Good luck.

I think you'd need to be very sure of the underlying bodywork condition before getting into it. If you ended up doing a body restoration it would cost an absolute fortune.

Based on my 1980 car I'd say there was a fair chance there will be quite a bit of rust about to be mended once the old paint was off.

Value wise (I'm probably stating the obvious here), non red cars are worth less and are harder to sell, especially for 'entry level' models, but I'm doubtful if it's economically sensible to do, unless the white car is unusually cheap and sound. Or you have good trade connections.

I'd suggest you talk it to a specialist for an estimate / feasability discussion.

Thanks Guys. It doesn't look like it's worth it - shame seems like a good car but white???

I'll keep looking.

From the 3200GT thread, suspect I know what you're thinking Alex. I guess it WOULD make it easier to sell on, though I doubt you'd get your money back unless the purchase price was very low. While you might consider it for a newer V12 for instance, the problem is that interior is usually colour co-ordinated. For a 308, you need to be able to have it done for less than a couple of grand to make it worthwhile I would have thought.

Yes, you're probably right Kev. Got a bit of an itch now and looking to scratch it! I'd really love a Boxer but know I'd hate the bills. So I'll keep looking for a bargin 308 - I'm sure I'll enjoy it but not my dream car so I'm not interested in spending much.

if you do all the prep work yourself then it might be reasonable £1500ish. I had a MGB roadster resprayed for £150 as I did all the prep work and it was a good job at a specialist.

i would of thought the value change would be at least neutral, possibly positive - given that red is more desirable and it would probably improve the appearance significantly on an older car.
