Problem starting 996
Discussion
My facelifted 3.6 996 (Carrera 2) tipronic seems to have developed a problem starting. The last 2 times I've been out in it, the car has started fine from cold, but when I stop somewhere and then try and restart the engine, no joy. When I turn the key, all the dash lights comes on, etc, but no attempt to turn the starter motor as though there is an open circuit somewhere. The only way I got it to start is to faff around with the the gear stick putting it in neutral/drive/park and eventually put it back to park or neural and it starts OK. Seems almost like there is a sensor that thinks it's not in park mode. Another thing occurred to me is there could be some kind of connector problem when it's all warmed up or maybe something up with the tiptronic. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has across anything like this before.
I've got it booked into my OPC tomorrow and am hoping they will be able to find out what's wrong and fix it under the extended warranty I have. I'm just hoping they can reproduce the problem while they have it in.
Cheers, James.
