I'd stick to your "usual style"

The boarder would look fine to the untrained eye. But what does it look like with no boarder, or a really thin black one?

Lets see..............(that means, you do some others)

Is "stopping down" decreasing the size of the aperture?

I need to set my lights up for f13 rather than f11, the dof at f11 when shooting food is too small.

I think someone confirmed this before, but F11 will be the same on every lens, correct?

the depth of field changes according to the focal length of the lens and how close the subject is to the focal plane - the amount of light passing through is the only constant at whatever the aperture may be.

i'm assuming you are not using bellows or extension tubes. if this is the case you need to apply the inverse square law if the extension is greater than the focal length of the lens.

edit to add - stopping down does mean making the hole which light passes through smaller - it does increase DOF.

I suppose my DOF is so shallow then due to the small amount of space between the glass and the subject. 70mm, even with 1.6x, doesnt give much zooming power so I have to move in as close as possible.

What are bellows? And can you explain the inverse square law in laymans terms?

the greater the focal length the shallower the DOF at F11.
but the amount of light that hits the focal at F11 is constant as long the distance between the lens and the focal length isn't greater than the focal length.

if you were using a 70mm lens on a plate camera and the extension once focused was 140mm and the exposure meter said F11 you would need and extra stop of exposure for the exposure to be correct.

Got some beans waiting for review and some onions.

How are your downloads fairing Shutterstock people? This week, mine have halved compared to the previous week.

Seem about the same as last week, maybe a little slower. Ive made $173 so far this month, 50 sales in the last 2 days. Sales always pick up on SS after a batch upload, you need to keep uploading to keep sales figures high. I havnt submitted anything in 2 weeks and they are slowing down. Hope to get another 50 pics accepted by friday which should give next week a boost.

My onion (isolated single onion) seems to be in first place bowtie how about you Poah?

Well having been on there a week I've got 46 downloads. 27 of which were yesterday. A friends wedding candid snap being the top downloader - 6

Keep thinking of things to photograph - so much so I'm writing them in a little book of things to do.
