hey,

i have finally got around to attempting to stitch together some of the panoramic pics that i have taken over the last few months (still need some work before i will post them here), and was wondering about the best way of getting them printed.

i know there are lots of online printing companies, but are any of them especially good at panoramics (or are any much cheaper than others)?

cheers

Photobox have a couple of panoramic sizes. 12"x5" or 20"x8".

I haven't had any prints in those sizes from them, but have used them before and found them OK.

Nothing to stop you selecting one of the other sizes and cropping the excess paper off if those are no good.

The photobox panoramics are very good quality... not quite panoramic enough, but one could crop.

cheers,

but i would like wider prints than that if possible.

does anyone know of any way of getting very wide prints done?

idea if i buy large paper (eg A1) and carefully cut it down in height so that it can fit through an A3 printer would there be any problems in getting a home printer to work with it?
(might the printer reject the print because it knows that the paper it normally takes is only a certain length? would there be any way of overiding this if it did happen?)

That would depend on the printer driver. It would have to recognise that there was a silly size piece of paper being fed through. Have a look under the print settings to see what options you get.

The problem is going to be that paper comes in standard sizes, especially photographic paper, so you may end up having to get a print done on a piece that fits on the long dimension, but wastes a lot on the shorter one.

Epson make rolls of panoramic paper (aka banner paper or roll paper). You are supposed to buy a special roll paper holder but I found you could get away with unrolling a large piece cutting it off and letting it spread out on a table behind the printer and it would feed in OK, just make sure you put it in straight ! You have seem to have a choice of 100mm wide, 329mm wide or 420mm wide.
