Touring cars Vs that red safety car. (Porsche)
Discussion
I've put this question here because surely if anybody knows the answer to this one of you lot will.
When ever i watch the British Touring Cars that bright red Porsche safety car usually come out, I was just wondering in a ten lapper with equal drivers would the porsche thrash those Touring cars.

I'd say the touring car would edge it over a standard GT2 and thrape a standard C2
My "evidence" being the following recent times:
Seat Leon 2006 - 49.368

996 GT2 R - 49.3

I initially thought no chance, but wonder how close it would actually be if you had Richard Westbrook or Walter Rohl pedalling the C2S?
I appreciate that despite losing out on bhp, the touring cars are running decent set ups and slicks, weather permitting.

I dont think it would make that much difference TBH, The touring car boys aren't exactly amateurs are they!!

Touring car would spank the 997, by how much im not sure, guessing an easy 5+ secs a lap, perhaps as high as 10 secs.
Not sure what the margin would be Lizard, but I doubt as wide as 10 secs round the Indy.
Consider the touring cars qualified in a range of 49.4 to 52.1 secs, I can get the old 993 tractor round in 55-56 secs (clear run), a decent driver should get the 997S round quicker than me by a few secs.....he would still be pulling over for one of the Reeves boys though!

Plato was doing cosistant low 50's in two of the races and I can't see the C2S in un modded form managing much more than 53's at an optomistic guess so in a 20 lap race Plato would probably just about lap the Porsche by the end imho. Now a carrera cup car doing 47's is another proposition.
Gordon Shedden drove my 964 RS around KH in 60secs without trying very hard. I can do consistent 60-61s. Gordon took a GT3 RS around in 58secs. He was flying literally over Dufus.
Touring cars were doing 57-58secs this year.
So unless it is a GT3 RS it is not going to be close to a Touring car

If the 997 was on the sports suspension, LSD, ceramics, power kit, stripped to the metal inside (seats, airbags, stereo, door linings, aircon, toolkit - everything binned) then I would fancy it giving them a run. But without losing 1/4-1/3 of a tonne, not a prayer.
it wouldnt be anywhere near. a touring car may look like your average hatch but they are circa £200-£250 to build with very trick suspension, breaks, tyres, weight distribution

Being a real porsche nut I would love to say that the 911 would win hands down but unfortunatly in the real world any touring car would eat the 911.
To be honest in the past where we have run a mildly tuned subaru wrx against a 997 c2s the wrx would win round a track so I imagine the touring cas are just sitting there waiting for the slow red thing to move over !!!!!
Sory to be negative but unfortunatly its just a fact !!
