0.6875 Ratio 5th Gear set PowerhausII-Any Experiences?
Discussion
Roger from PowerhausII send me an Mail confirming the shipping of my wishfully expected 5th Gear replacement for my G50 01. So it will be here in Germany within the next 3 days ready tu built it in and have a GTR capable of going 220 mph...
YES!
Now I wanted to know if any of you have experienced the 0.679 (21:31) resp. 0.6875 (22:32) ratio from Powerhaus II and has any advice for the built in process or the use of this gear set...f.e. other oil, building in a temp.sens. for gearbox oil temp or smth else...? In case you use one ? What´s you experience.? Does it work well, noises, rattling ? Is it shiftable as easy as the original porsce stuff ?????? Questions that call for answers !
In tribute to GTWanye, my black fellow, I´d like to start a countdouwn as well....4 days to go
NO! Hé initiated first, so I won´t imitate !

Guess it won't fit the G50/20 or G50/21 6 speed boxes ???
I't be good whilst cruising on the motorway to have the engine reving sub 2k...

My thoughts as well.
Have had this in mind but can't justify doing it until the box has to be stripped for some other reason.
Steve
hey jeff. Who did the 5th gear replacement in your G50/52 ? Roger at PHII or did you do it yourself ?
To steve and the other guys: Roger from PHII AND a employee engineer working at Porsches GearBox Unit here in Germany both said, that the G50 5th Gears will suit any G50 Model, no matter if G50 00, 01, 02, 03, 20, 21, 50, 52. They just won´t fit the gearboxes which came later and the G64 (4ed) gear boxes) as far as I know.

Are you saying that gear will go in as a sixth gear in a 6 speed box?
That would be nice and take me to 212mph @ 6500rpm. Or 80mph cruise at 2500rpm.
Steve
I actually calculated the drop between the standard 4th and my new PHII 5th a few times...It´s not that big! A LS6 (as I have it) creates 400+ (mine 500) hp and 5XX NM (4XX lbs-ft) of torque...that´s suffiecient !
Let me give you some figures:
My LS6 does 7.000 rpm, my tires have a circumference of approx. 2.02metres....
Top Speed in standard 4th (which is a 1.125 ratio), is 218km/h (136 mph).
At 5000 RPM the 4th makes a 156 km/h (97 mph). If you shift up to the
new 5th (which is 0.6875) you´ll have a 3048 rpms...That´s already a nice
rpm with a lot of torque and power supplied.... If you´re in a rush, just push
the 4th up to 6500, and you´ll come to 4000 rpm to continue acceleration....
If you like cruisin...the new gear lets you drive at a nice 2344 rpm with a speed
of 120 km/h (74,5 mph).
BUT: The situation here in Germany is quite different! 1st we got a lot of winding
landscape (rural area) roads, on which you CAN`T go over 140km/h without flying of
the curve....On the other side we have the Autobahn, not limited, where you may
(if traffic and weather is o.k.) go a 340 km/h...So making a trip through the
mountains and low mountain range accelerating and braking a lot...I have 4 Gears
fully dedicated to accelerating...If I make a race on the autobahn, I have
a 5th gear which let´s me fly...In case we got a long-distance tour visiting
grand-ma
and germans autobahn is fuc*#'+ crowdy again, I have a 5th gear,
that keeps rpms low and noise as well....
I like this, but it is a compromise ! A friend of mine, who is building the
3rd german GTR (LS2), asked PH for a complete re-gearing of his G50 03 to
close the "drop" between 4th and 5th...It´s 4000+ $ ! I don´t need that !

Steve. I heard that of two guys, but can´t give you a guarantee ! The inner life of the G50 XX gearboxes have´nt really changed or been modified throughout the years ! That´s for sure, because I now that from a former developper of porsches gearboxes.... Call Roger Brown from PHII www.PHII.net and ask him again !
