Just had a browse through an inhouse product info guide on the 997 GT3, and some interesting reading.
Please note the following info is actually based on the LHD Euro car, so not sure if everything is carried over to the UK model.
Did you know :

1.The xenon light system has no dynamic levelling to save weight, apparently it's not required due to the stiff suspension, which restricts body movement within specified limits.

2. The pedals are slightly further forward (10-15mm) giving more room for taller drivers. This has been made possible due to a new bulkhead crossmember.
So just the excuse for any tall people to go for the GT3 over the normal Carrera !!

3. Pressing the 'Sport' button - not sure if this is the same as the PASM Sport button - increases the engine torque by up to 25Nm in the mid-range, and also selects a sportier setting for the traction control.
Max torque is unchanged.

4. The 'new' PCCB is the same as already used on the 996 GT2, and Turbo S from model year 2005. This means 'Enhanced Disk Technology', and aluminium front brake disk chambers.

5. A roof antenna is a no-cost option for better MW reception, could be handy in the Highlands of Scotland !!

Maybe this is all common knowledge, but new to me.

Cheers,

flemke

Thanks for the helpful information.

Any idea what "brake disk chambers" are?

Not very clear what they actually are.
All it says is they're 50% lighter, giving a total saving of 1.8kg, so probably nothing worth getting too excited about !!

I wonder whether they're referring to the disc bells. You could sort of call them "chambers", and they are aluminium on PCCB. The thing is, there always have been aluminium bells on PCCB.
Perhaps the bells are lighter than the previous iteration.

Bit of a scanner problem at the moment I'm afraid.
Easier just to quote the info :

'A new feature which is exclusive to the new 911 GT3 is the 'aluminium brake disk chamber' on the front axle.
The switch from steel to aluminium was successfully premiered on the new 911 GT3 Cup (997)in March 2005. The 911 GT3 adopts this technology, resulting in the advantage of a further reduction in the unsprung masses on the front axle. The aluminium brake disk chamber is approx 50% lighter than the steel variant. In addition to the light ceramic brake disks, this results in a further reduction in the unsprung masses for the vehicle as a whole of approx. 1.8kg. '

Hope this clarifies things a bit more.

How can they be the same, as they are running 380mm discs now ?????

AND, i think the calipers are the larger ones from the Carrera GT ?????

My OPC Service Manager showed me an internal service bulletin that indicated that there were several other changes for the 997GT3 with PCCBs - "enhanced disc technology for greater durability", larger (380mm) front discs but with slightly greater rear brake bias, improved cooling, further reduced weight (aluminium disc chambers).

This is the spec that is now being used in the Porsche Supercup, where they reckon they are now cost effective due to their lifespan. Although, for road use, the main benefits come from the unsprung weight saving.

This is true of all 997 over 996 - Still a great excuse though....
