Just have a few tyre questions and wondering if someone could shed any light ??
I understand the new GT3 will be fitted only with Sport UHP tyres, which are based on the ones fitted to 996 GT3 RS.

I read that Porsche reckon the wear rate is similar to normal road tyres. Given the larger contact area I guess this might be true, even though the compound is softer.
I still find it hard to believe, can anyone advise on this ??
Also how many mm tread do these tyres actually have to start with ??

If I were to fit normal road tyres to a GT3, - I think the Turbo is the same size -
would this be a problem as regards insurance, ie fitting non standard tyres ??

Thanks

yikes

Only 4000 miles! I'm hoping they last longer than that. My rear tyres on my 993C4 lasted about 13000 miles!

I believe that all UK cars will be supplied, at least initially, on the homologated michelin sport cups. Pirelli corsas are likely to be available, but have not yet been approved by Porsche (still under testing).

The road spec, n-rated, tyres supplied on the 997TT and C4S will fit the GT3 and I can't imagine there will be any problem fitting these, especially for regular road use in winter. They may be slightly quieter.
