Pinhole camera - cardboard box and magnifying glass? Cannot get much more basic than that.

Seriously, a Pentax K1000 is a fantastic, basic 35mm SLR. It should be pretty cheap second hand too.

The Olympus OM-1 was always considered an extremely desirable and capable fully manual 35mm SLR.

I always prefered the OM-2n semi-auto myself. Which I still have after 20-odd years of ownership, oh yes.

considered the OM-1. had a quick look on ebay few for sale but stil with a few days to go. most FD cameras seem to be a touch pricey, nikon F models seem sto be cheap.

I love all my old Nikon kit. I cannot bear to part with it. FM2 is a great manual camera and should be cheap as chips seciond hand. Now the F3 is a whole different ball game, and the F2 as well (known to stop bullets thumbup )

Probably a similar amount of time has elapsed since I last used mine. hehe

I keep it for sentimental reasons, mainly because I took so many thousands of B&W photos on it which I developed myself but not least because my dad gave it to me.

A lot of these older cameras still have meters. You could always save some money and just switch you camera to 'M' mode?

Hang about! I think I may be thinking of the OM-10 now hehe

I keep my F3 because I did much of my degree work and have associated happy memories with it and because it is just so bloomin fantastic.

I've only had one glass of wine, but are we talking about film cameras here? I thought we were. Now I'm confused.

I believe if i dig deep enough i could placemy hands on my old Praktica MTL-5B, which you could say is going back a fair few years, if i remember correctly though, it did have a little needle on the right sideofthe viewfinder for metering.

The OM-10 was a reasonable amateur camera at the time, but an OM-2n had real kudos as it was a rather expensive semi-pro. My father had more money than sense at the time, although in fairness he did buy the camera for himself and then realised that I was more talented than him photographically and initially lent, then gave, it to me. hehe

There were some yanks once, who left some Hasselblads lying around after a little trip they did scratchchin (well allegedly)

Not only are they probably manual, but they'd be free if you could pop out and pick them up....

Here's where they were last seen...

Oh, you didn't specify film. In that case how about one of these

They're pretty manual.

or if you don't want to rely on new fangled 'through the lens focusing' you could guess, with something like this

Both cheap as chips.

Leica R6.2. One of the most beautiful and simple cameras made.

PS I just happen to have a mint example for sale....
