Photos Printed Onto Canvas
Discussion
Hi,
We're thinking of getting a family portrait done as a 60th birthday present for my mum next month. I was thinking it might be a nice touch to get one of the shots printed out onto canvas for her. I've never seen one done before though, and don't fancy it if it's only going to last until it first see's sunshine or looks generally cheap and tacky.
Anyone got any opinions or reccomendations?
Ta,
Jim.

I can't find anywhere on that site that recommends minimum file sizes for selected canvas size... although a minimum recommendation must exist.
Ie. You might want 30 x 40" but if the shot you want to use (?? from some years ago) is only a few Mb, it'll look grainy won't it?

I'd say at least 4500x6000px for that size. I've had similar size done from a smaller image (it was a competition winner, so I had nothing to lose) but it looked pretty poor. It might look ok for other people but the photographer would definitely notice the quality.

I'm not sure it needs to be that big. I've got a 2mp image printed at 30"x20" and it looks great, no noticable pixelisation.
Bear in mind a large canvas print on a wall will be admired from afar rather than up close.
If it were me I'd get it printed out onto paper in the desired size somewhere like foto.com first, for about £5, and check the quality. If it looks ok then spend the cash on a canvas print.
