I'm inspired by the wide angle thread and would like to take some like this myself - as a complete amateur at photography, could someone recommend a good value lens I could order online?

Much appreciated - I'll repay you with crap photos.

Geez If you'd told us in the first place your cleaner was so big you'll need a wide angle lens to do her justice, that thread would'nt have made it past page 2.

Thats the most tenuous link to that thread I've ever ever heard, and trust me I've heard a lot.

It even beats the time I said 'I agree' on a thread and someone, utterly hilarious, said 'what like your cleaner agreed to beat off in the spare room'. So well done.

Another vote for this lens. Rather decent.

IMO much as the 12-24 is rated, if your going wide go wide.

12mm on a D50 is 18mm, 10mm is 15mm, 3mm makes quite a difference at the end your buying it for.

The Tokina holds f/4 though, which may matter to some.

I've managed to add three items of optical gloriousness to combat my NAS in the last two months. Sadly I've been working and haven't had the opportunity to get out there and take lots of photos to d any of them justice.

But one of my recent purchases has been non-Nikon in the shape of a Sigma 14mm F2.8. (Secondhand bargain of the Fleabay type and a bit of a punt, but it seems OK.)

Anyway, quite a revelation to have back a 21mm (equivalent) having missed my 20mm for 18 months. And a surprisingly OK build quality too (whcih is saying a fair bit for a Nikon-snob! hehe )

I don't think this is a particularly "popular" lens, although all the reviews I've seen have given it a good rating - and half the price of a Nikon 14mm!!!

Short focal lengths mean a good handheld shutter speed but with this sort of lens your typicaly shooting tripod & higher fstops anyhow for DOF.

sigma suffers from bad optical QC though.

True, but if you get a bad one, just exchange it!
