After spending 100k on my lovley spec 996 turbo (420hp) , then covering only 10k miles after 4 years and to then be offered 50k in part ex seems pointless to me.So instead of spending 100k on a new 997 turbo (50k in dep. and 50k to make up 100k again! + extras!)I have decided to tune it , first of all a re-map + milltek & cats (480hp im told) some 18" techart daytonas & a front aero spoiler , all costing just shy of 10k and imho , a worthwile set of small but impressive upgrades!

Full report to follow , i cannot find any reports on tuned turbos so any feedback is welcome!!(Bearing in mind i do not have the X50 upgrade)

Thanks,
Paul

As beautiful as the 997 TT is I really can't blame you for your thinking. £50k loss yikes its enough to make you slash your wrists!

10k in 4 years also seems pointless

IMVHO - get the tuning, skip the tacky aftermarket spoiler kits/alloys and fit an OEM GT2 aerokit

very wise,I actually prefer several things about the 996TT to the 997TT...steering feel, noise, ride. No way the 997TT is worth double.

don't forget to tell your insurance man when you do or they'll chuck your claim in the bin if you go investigate a hedge with it

Spend the money on the X50 turbos... then you have a platform that you can tune to Stratospheric levels... then use that as a base for re-map, tubi/milltek...de-cat etc...

Your car will have massive grunt... much quicker than a 997TT

Mine has K24 hybrids, exhaust, manifolds, dump valves,GT2 intercoolers, clutch and flywheel,remap.20k miles later and no problems other than lambda sensors cooking.
Give rob or Mike a bell, top lads.

The best advise is go for the tuning option BUT please spend AT LEAST 3months reading all you can and doing searches on rennlist, rennteam and obviously here. Before spending your cash please be familiarized with words like hybrids, no drone exhaust and brands like RUF, RS tuning, Europipe, Manthey Motors, Cargraphic, etc. (advise: stick to European brands). Don't be shy and PM fellow users and ask for their advise, many will tell you the money they had to spend twice for not doing the research first.

Fair point about the insurance, which insurance companies insure these modified cars at competitive rates?

I think there are quite a few people who mod cars and don't inform their insurance company. Fine if you never have an accident but if you do (and particularly if someone gets hurt), your insurance policy is worthless.

I'm no expert on insurance, I think if you just inform your current insurer that you've made mods they just add them to the details on your policy. (Although I have no doubt they will hike the premium into the stratosphere!)

Having my x50 996tt upgraded to 520 bhp with europipes fitted aswell. A much better option than a new 997tt.

Sell it, sky rocket the £50k and then rent a 997tt for the next 4 years. You'll be quids in and will probably drive more miles.

2,500 miles a year in a tt should be a criminal offence.
