My flatmate has a 993 C4S and had a close encounter with a stone a while ago, which left a dent in the front wing, just below the lights, perhaps 1 inch in diameter (the paint peeled off totally).

His Porsche garage claim that it will cost between 1000 and 1200 pounds to repair. As they would not do the repairs themselves anyway, I was wondering if there are any independent specialists that you know who could do an equally good job cheaper?

I'd be tempted to find out who they use(get him to ask the OPC to tell him to reassure him about quality) then nip round and ask about cash in hand pricing.

I see from your profile that you're in Slovenia, which makes it difficult to recommend someone local, but I suspect the principles apply...

Forgot about updating the profile, I am in London actually, so somewhere in the London area, I suppose

He tried asking them but they do not tell

sounds like the OPC are advising replacing the whole wing and spraying up, maybe because dent can't be pushed out easily; it's cheaper to fill something like that, but they may not want filler used - presumably because they can't charge you 300 GBP for a wing, LOL.

A good bodyshop would be able to fill/paint the panel for a few hundred. If your mate wants a guy that knows Porsches and is prepared to travel a little, Ben at Towcester Coachworks in Northants does my stuff. And I like to keep him busy

Thanks a lot!

It doesn't look like something that cannot be pushed out (at least to my untrained eye), perhaps 4mm deep at most.

Does the garage operate on weekends as well? Have they got a website or can you provide contact details? (in case that is OK here)

We're talking like 300-600 pounds, right?

I doubt it would even be that much. I had a few panels done by some friends who own three Chips Away franchises in Cambridge... fantastic results... and that was about 5 panels on two cars for 500 GBP.

Your local Chips Away could help. Maybe ring for a quote. It's territory based so you'd have to be based in Cambs for the place I used:

Chips Away Anatol and Michelle

www.cam-area.co.uk/

Or speak to Ben at:

Towcester Coachworks
01327358576

2 Brackley Road , Towcester , Northamptonshire NN12 6DJ

There must be some nearer your mate, but these should give you an idea of what type of place to go to, and 1000 is a lot of petrol money if your mate does decide to go further afield to get it fixed.

Not sure if these people are still around, but they did some work to my 993 C2 in 2001:

www.londononline.co.uk/profiles/147507/

Someone put a huge dent and took a layer of paint off the rear wing. OPC wanted circa £2k to repair. Mate of mine who had work done on his M5 recommended the above. Was 'under the arches', however they had loads of Porsches and Mercs there. Charged me £250 cash deal, turned it round in 3 days, and the job was stunning. Better than the job the OPC did on respraying my bumper.

As I say, not sure if they are still around, but worth trying the number.

If you're anywhere near the A1, I'd recommend www.daytonacoachworx.co.uk No affiliation, but my 944 is in for some TLC with them at the moment.

Try ringing 'Body Technics' in Slough. They do all the repairs for Porsche in the local area ( which includes Reading)...you never know...and it's only 30 mts away.( 20 in a Porsche!)

Without naming and shaming, I personally wouldn't recommend Body Technics in Slough. PM for details.

Tower Porsche, use them for my spannering. Great mechanic, but I use somewhere else for the bodywork.
