Hi guys, mate of mine has just got a rover mini with the John Cooper S conversion, its a 97 on a P plate and has done about 70k. When we go to change gear/roll on in neutral (as in, no throttle) the engine has a nasty habit of cutting out. This happens both hot and cold and we cannot pinpoint when it happens as it does it seemingly randomly. Any help would be hot - we figure it is a fuelling issue, possibly with the pump.

Thanks in advance.

If the car is an MPI try stripping and cleaning the stepper valve. It has a couple of hoses connected to it and it is bolted to the inlet manifold.

take the air filter off and check the throttle spindle opens and shuts ok.

the plastic body warps with the heat and the spindle cannot return fully home.

a common problem

Well he's gone off to uni so unfortunately I can't really give you guys any progress. He is also lazy as hell so the likelihood of this getting fixed overnight is low to sub-zero. I will report back when I actually know whats happened, but i'll drop his step-dad a line and tell him what we culd be dealing with here. Thanks a lot for the help chaps.
