Chevy TT V8 650<>1300ps on 98octane Ultima friendly?
Discussion
When I was searching the net for some kitcar info I came acros the Minotaur MK-2? wich I also think its a nice car(specialy in black
)
I remember once seeing it but forgot the car...anyway when I looked through the option list for that car, I came acros this monster, a chevy V8 Twin Turbo good for 650 to 1300ps using octane 98 fuel
it comes with all stuff;
This monster is able at an octane of 98 variably between 650 and the 1300 PK provide. It exists from complete power trains including lighting, CPU, sensoren and tractioncontrol, acceleration barge, bellhousing, link plates, drukgroep and drive shafts. product overview price: 44,898euro Art.nummer: btt1300
I also saw on their option list using porsche 6 speed boxes but also the Audi 5000 5 speed box all included the adapter plate needed for the engine!
Porsche-Quaff, 6 speed;
audi 5000;
Maybe the audi box can work normaly not upside down as the porsche???
more info and picture's (foto's) can be found here;

dont think the engine in the picks would work like that too good! it places the turbos to far forward! now i iahve spoke top some distributers of the Banks Turbo kits (the engine in the pics is a banks SBC using their cast manifolds and turbo kit) and they recon you could swing the manifolds around and run them the other way, so the turbos would it above the rear exhaust port on each side of the engine. you would then have to rig up and chargecooling system. intercoolers would be very inefficent in the Ultima as the body deign doesn't allow you much scope to mount the intercoolers in good airflow. therefore you would have to look at chargecoolers. these could sit behind the engine but then you have no room for exhaust boxes! or you could run a couple of chargcoolers in the same position as Dave is on his can-am. but then you have to get cold air to the turbos!
now thats alot of R+D for someone to do on their own! what would be esier is to wait for Jeff to finish his twin turbo LS2 setup and ask him to do you one. or if you wanted really big power ask nelson racing to do one of their 427 twin turbo for you! they dyno at over 1000bhp on 91 octane american fuel and the one i have seen in a ultima mabe 1600bhp on race!! also these guys are the best at SBC or BBC turbo motors! they have done 2000bhp twin turbo big blocks for marien and road use!!
supercharging would be a simpler solution and give you similer levels of power! Kene Bell's 2.8ltr twin screw blower has just been dyno'ed at around 1000bhp on a LS2 in a vette. it also made similer torque and was making around 700lbs ft at the rear wheels by 2000rpm!!! the supercharger is not that much bigger than the one used in crafty's Ultima and it still has more capactiy in it! they are looking to do a 454 (or 481) cudic inch LSx using a warhawk block and i think they are gunning for 1000bhp at the rear wheels!
also might be worth looking at a vortech or Ati (procharger) thats used on a GTO. steveieturbo on here is using one on his 383 LS1 in his ford and is making about 900 (hopefully with the new manifold steve!!!
). again you need to consider intercooling of some sort. but there is much less of a problem with heat with the superchargers then with turbos, but also they are not as easily ajustable.
or you could take stig's view and make it moderate powered but drive it well!!!
thanks Chris.
PS. if anyone wants links i can try and find them. cant be a***d to now so if you want them ask and i will try

Thanks chris...I would be glad with "just" 500hp...thats anough for me and I like a reliable engine when i would buy one, so...like LS 2<>7 engine's, audi or bmw...
I'm not so in the chevy world and to be honest I thought it could be a more modern engine they offered, there was not that much info on their site but you found it was a sbc older type...not my type due for some reasons, so if I could choose...
Anyway I came acros it and thought bring it on maybe someone can do something with the info and or links.
thanks

I have over 1000hp in my 5 liter engine on 95 unleaded (us91) so why would it be a problem? I had absolutely no detonation during the runs so I think I could even stretch it a bit further if I wanted. However 1000bhp is insane and of no use in the Ult so why bother? (because I can...

nope thats much faster and more then I thought
I was thinking in a ride...but then again was thinking of my drivers license that I just got back in januari after a lucky? but heavy 3 months without it when cruising
alone in the night on a empty autobahn... GTRene
What is the point of all this? I mean honestly, a Nelson engine in an Ultima with a quality trans and LSD would be overkill.
This past weekend I was at Mosport racetrack for the American Lemans Series and was in awe of the Chevy C6R, when I checked out its specs, 600hp 1156kg and thought to myself Ultima has more power and less weight. Since there are no Ultimas here I can't even imagine how a 720hp Ultima moves!
If I really wanted to go nuts though it would be a Nelson engine with an Xtrac transversal with a 3 plate Carbon Ap Racing Clutch and Ap Racing Diff.

yep...for me also when I would buy one some day I like a bit reliable and not that oilconsuming and a bit "economic" as the more modern engine's do...as I stated before 500hp will be more then anough for me in such light car...
Ask stig he also had a big hp Ultima GTR and he also says for road use even 385hp is anough...so 500hp will do it to keep it a bit scary(read adreline pumping)

When I drive my Ult with boost down and around 600 hp I actually feel that it is kind of slow. It's still a very quick car for sure but what I mean is that 600HP can I get used to and feel comfortable with. Less would be booring and more is insanely fun
Thats what makes turbos so much better than NA or compressor. You can tune power depending street, track or your mood. If you build a (old style) small block with modern parts you can forget about oil consumtion etc. I have no oil cunsumtion at all even at full boost. The engine will never be better than you build it...

those BIG turbo's need some time to spool up me thinks...but once on full brrr everything gets blurry
oke lets book a testride

they are hybrid Garrett GT42s!
very nice pieces of kit. and you have to remember the 1895bhp was done on a 383!! now imagine if they where using a darton sleved 427 ls1!!
i agree with what everyone is saying about BIIIGGGG power and is it really needed. i guess its down to what the builder wants. and for most i think a strock or modded LS7 would make more than enough power, make all the right noises, and be pretty efficent!
also some of you might want to look into the LS5!! i have seen picktures and it looks like GM is going with a 3 vavle per cyclinder heads. also said to flow about 13% (i think) than the 2valve heads.
thanks Chris.

how did you get thoes figures?? are you talking about the monster power LS1 or another engine?? the dyno graphs in the link are all in kph.
Chris.
EDIT: im talking cr*p again! lol sorry
be nice to see it pull a few more revs! the boost look more like a centrifugal supercharger than turbos. but then they are masive. lol Edited by chuntington101 on Friday 8th September 12:38

Hi gtr-tt,
I thought your engine is a turboed Lexus, or am I wrong?
Cause my experience with highly tuned small blocks (Gen1) is that, even if you use the best parts available, they will turn into oil-burners sooner or later. This has something to do with the antiquated design and also because the tolerances of pistons or ring gaps have to be quite high.
I do NOT think that this is a question of build quality.
I would love to see a 600HP small block with race parts not to burn 2-3 litres of synthetic oil after 10.000 miles driving. Of course, if you put in heavy mineral "dynosaur" oil, this might be a bit better.
Cheers,
Peter
Two cars = two engines
1 Lexus and 1 Brodix based "chevy". Apart from block and heads the concepts and look are very equal.
The "america" based engine has the same tolerances as the Lexus and the heads are as modern when it comes to seals as any modern engine. The block and heads are aluminium and are designed 100% for race and can't be compared to chevy casts. If you have problems with oil passing thru the rings try total seal napier rings.

LS7 with a base Lingenfelter kit @ 620 off hp seems like perfectfor now to me especially considering the aftermarket I am sure that this motor will enjoy.
Even if you have 1,000,000 hp what tranny and clutch is gonna take that?

Please elaborate old chap?

but then again I don't know what roads/tracks you have in Sweden but it seems you know some nice places to floor and use such powerrrr, I have to go in Germany for that...say max 50km to the Autobahn...
