Probably a silly question but how good is this PSM . 3 times yesterday I booted it in the wet going round corners, all good sideways fun but I thought PSM may restrict that or is that asking too much ?

it should if it detects 15 degrees of slip on a wheel - have you got it? If you haven't got a PSM buttom on the dash then you haven't

Yes I have the button and its a 996. It works as I have tried it in the dry on a round about and it cut in then. Maybe wet is asking a little too much especially sideways

The good thing about PSM (imo) is that it allows a certain amount of sideways fun but cuts in if things get too out of hand. Masses of oversteer (or understeer) may be spectacular but the fastest way (on racetrack) is to drive just at the limit before the point where PSM cuts in. Turning it off will not make you any faster. Discuss..

It is my contention that turning it off doesn't make you faster, too. However - a number of our racing compatriots feel that throttle response with PSM on is compromised. This may, indeed, be true. Can't say I have felt it myself - and I've switched mine on and off and thrashed it on track. This is not to say that this is not the case, however. More likely that as my skills get better I will, perhaps, be more critical of the system. However - for some years of Boxster S ownership I have found PSM to utterly brilliant.

Mate. You need an airfield. Then you can really have a bloody good go and see what PSM and your car will do when the system is switched on and off.

It's good if you are a bad driver and bad if you are a good one... Seriously though, I have recently driven 2 Porkers with it fitted, a Cayman S and a C4S. For me, Both cars were far better with it switched off. Great when its snowing though...

When snow is compacted it is easer to drive with the PSM off starting in 2nd gear as the PSM cant cope with the imputs that was what I found on ski trips in both my C2 and C4S but it may well work better with winter tyres
