Fabspeed exhausts
Discussion
Why do people go cheap on a 996 Turbo?!? It beats me... anyway read this:
www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=301655&f=48&h=0
And PLEASE do a search (as someone said) on 6speedonline, on Rennlist, etc and don't go cheap on a 996 Turbo, at least Porsche didn't when fitted a dry sump engine and state-of-the-art gadgets.

This is a 2 edge sword! You want the performance then put up with the noise!
Fabspeed is one of the best for performance systems by far, but yes the resonance around the 2k mark does piss me off sometimes, not to bad when cruising 90-100mph. (and mine is moderate) don't get me wrong it's awesome when you floor it, the sound is good, but there is better sounding systems out there. The brackets for the system are not the best and could be better.
You will hear people telling different stories regards exhaust, it basically comes down to personal preference, and you are best listening to different systems to see which best suits you.
I would love it if my Fabspeed had a switch, lol

If you listen to the standard car, it still "booms" at about 2k revs, before I purchased mine I had a lengthy chat with several different technicians, all said that the 2k boom is inherent to all the systems, BUT the volume varies dramatically between makes. In the end I went for a Cargraphic, which has one of the best repuatations out there. Apparently the American systems are known to be louder, so a medium US is probably equavalent to a loud EEC unit.
The quiet European systems are too quite to hear inside, the loud make the car sound like a tractor on part throttle & can be rather embarrassing to drive (& your ears bleed at 2k revs), a medium Euro system is the way to go!But it all depends on price etc, I saw a used Fabspeed in the classifieds, so presumably this is why you are asking about this particular system.
If you can log into Rennlist try this link (big test!) & do a search, there is a vast amount of info on Fabspeed.

i had a fabspeed on my 996. it was superb quality stainless steel and better quality than the oe box which came off the car.
you either want a quiet car (OE) a noisy car (fabspeed) or a quiet / loud car (porsche switchable).
I think mine was something like £1k reduced to £750 and that buys a good quality ss exhaust, the extra premium for the Porsche oe boxes is profit.
Keep the original boxes then you can swap back at resale time.

Bennno was yours a Carrera rather than a Turbo? If so totally different package/sound/costs, as the Turbo systems have to include the cats (makes them more expensive)& produce a different sound/resonance than the n/a engines!
It may not directly apply to your car, but if it is any help, I've just been around Europe in my 993 C2S with Supercups. Up and down the autobahn and visited a certain derestricted, one way, tollroad
and the supercups only added to the experience. Knocking around at home, with respect to the ears, is no problem at all! Once they are nice and warm they tone down a bit and respond to the right foot nicely.
