its a 1071 built round a south african crank, so it uses large journal con rods.

engine

1071 + 60 (1130)
fully worked crank and rods
mega flat top pistons
steel duplex
billet 649 cam
head done to suit
1.5 roller tip rockers
aldon dizzy remapped to suit
ulta lite flywheel and what not

engine was built by M.E.D
head done by M.E.D
dizzy mapped by Phil Hepworth

runs a new 45, 3 into 1 race manifold, maniflow megaphone and backbox.

box is remote 4 sync s/c (minispares) with man transmission sc drops and a quaiffe lsd running pot joints

makes about 86 bhp on Mick Barrets rollers

just swopping the c.w.p to drop the gearing, so cracking the sub 10mpg will happen

watch this space!!!

That's about the same consumption as my 1310 cc 'S' gives on the competitive sections of rallies.
I used to rally in the works Datsun 240Z's and they used to give 5 mpg (on a good day) on the competitive bits. But then, I wasn't paying for the gas.
I'm up your way next weekend, Rich, doing the Yorkshire Endurance Rally in my Rover 214.

Actually they were Jap copies of the Weber with twin 40 mm choke tubes. We had about 190 bhp at the wheels.

ha ha

i knew that, there is a guy in harrogate who is a 240 specalist. (z farm) - his lad used to have a darrian rally car - very fast (and unreliable)

ive been up to his place before - he has a couple of really nice works rally replicas - one is his own

the engines are huge!

I know of him. He'll know of my old 'Z' driver, Kevin Videan.Back then I was a co-driver/navigator and the Z was terrif to navigate in compared to a Mini. For one thing, you could actualy see the maps on rough roads.
In fact, thinking about it, we had triple twin-choke carbs with 50mm choke tubes. That's like a 1.9" choke tube for each cylinder.

my mates sprint/hillclmb has quite a thirst, and we had quite a laugh comparing its fuel consumption when we double drove it at a sprint at north weald.
the tank on the car is tiny, about half a gallon, and whilst setting very competitive times he was using about 3/4 of a tank per run. then i had a go, i was about 12 seconds slower than him, and only used about 1/4 of a tank!
its running split 45's, 300 scatter cam, is 1399cc and pushing out 140bhp on gerald dales rollers.

1293 cc Migs run 3.9 to 1 on 1 to 1 drops. The 1012cc Sevens run much shorter gearing.

Spa was on a 4.5 with 1 to 1 drops! It pulled 9000rpm down the hill into Eau Rouge/Radillion! New valves springs required at the end of the meeting......

New for this year 2006 - The Se7en class has been split. Normal se7ens (no diff restriction and 1012cc) and a new cheaper formula class that runs a control 3.7 diff with a low rpm 1293cc unit aimed at attracting racers even more constrained by budget and Mighty Mini type formual cars that are having problems with their own internal championship regs.
