Yup,

As I understand it radar jammers come under the heading of "perverting the course of justice" for which prison is a definite option.

Is there a semi-legit reason for having one like the laser jammer/door openers?

just my 2 cents fwiw

Hey 350 plus

Interesting question.

This whole issue really does open up a bunch of ethical questions.

The paradox is that ultimately we drive cars, in which breaking speed restrictions is all to easy to do, often unintentionally. If we're honest, driving any noble, there are times where breaking the law happens, to get the most from our investments. This is an easy claim to critiquee, but if we're honest, well you guys are drivers who dump rediculous sums of $$$$ into machines whose purpose is to travel fast in straight lines and around corners too, so I dont think it requires much explination here.

It's interesting, people putting all the spin on road angels etc, focusing on the fact that its 'safer' etc and yes it is... but the real reason they sell is becase people want to travel faster without getting ed with.

How do you guys feel about driving fast with regard to the law etc.

I'm definitely attracted to the idea of being able to drive with more personal freedom.

Who else is running some kind of ECM?

I think you will find a lot people from the 'other side' read these forums - which maybe why no one has engaged in this thread...

Ah - just looked at your link and it is a laser jammer not a radar jammer?

Still perverting etc etc but maybe you could convince the judge you need it to open your garage doors..

I don't think anything under the heading of counter-measures as opposed to detection is going to make you very popular if caught.

"They" say that if a car errors out a laser the reg is taken and if it happens again you might get a knock on your door.

If you want a directional radar detector they are legal at the moment I believe and the Valentine is your friend.

Apparently the best laser jamer only works for 5 seconds to error the laser, then switches off to allow them to get a reading (by which time you should have slowed down enough). Depends if they still store you on their little database for future reference on another day. Can't remember what it was called though.

Someone I know has a radar detector but he doesn't understand that by the time the detector tells you there's a radar, it's already got you....

I'm no expert but I do own a Bel 550, and I don't believe the above is always true. My understanding is that if you are the first person that they point the radar gun at then you are likely to be caught. If however there are other cars around then if you have a decent detector and they are targetted before you, then you are likely to pick up some of the scatter from their detection and therefore get an early warning. On fixed (radar based) camera's you will always get an early warning, though I have found it best if another car passes through first.

Don't think the same is true of lasers as they don't scatter the same. Having said all that, I don't generally bother with mine around home, as I know about the fixed camera's and laser is used for handhelds instead of radar these days. I find it really only adds some benefit where there are likely to be fixed radar based cameras in an area I don't know.

I didn't think that the Police used radar anymore? They all seem to have laser guns having distributed their old radar guns to gangs of fist shaking old people! You gotta laugh when they squint at you desperatly trying to get the last digits of your plate as you fly past

Definitely not, but I have been trained to a similar standard and while I disagree entirely with the current speed mantra I do feel that taunting people in the way you describe is not going to do the cause of those who would prefer to see this changed any good at all.

In addition if members of the older generation are frowning at you it would imply you are exceeding a posted limit in a built up area. Not a smart place to be hooning in my opinion.

Please don't assume from this post that I am a goody two shoes who drives religeously at the posted limit, after all there are places and times where 30 is positively dangerous and 90 relatively safe but I do find the childish attitude of some people tiresome.

If attitudes don't change we will all be stuck with cars that will be governed to local speed limits at all times by computer and then where will your enjoyment come from!

Sorry for the soapbox post but having picked up the pieces more than a few times this kind of attitude gets up my nose.

Guys,

It won't matter anyway. My work is designing a Satilite system that among other things will be used to track cars and probably also for speeding.

Obviously there will be extra electronincs in the car (new cars) and all it takes is pressure on manufactures to have them fitted as standard.

Don't worry I'll do my best to prevent it flying.

Hey Bondy, thats exactly what I meant!! Mind you perhaps flying is the next place we'll find cars! Must be some extra space up there somewhere

£3.50 of electronics stops any such system dead in its tracks by 'proving' that you were travelling 10mph when actually you were travelling at 195mph.

A question....

If GPS is so dam good, why in the last 10 years have 99.7% of all bombs dropped been guided by either wire (yes, good old copper wire tailing behind the said missile) or laser?

There is always that very cool bit of video showing some of my previous workplace's technology making a missile 'turn left at Aijahl Nijah, right at Asifh Turniugh', but, that's not how it's panned out.

Search for "GPS blocking" or "GPS Spoofing" on Google and you'll be amazed...

I don't doubt that as soon as this happens there will be an electronic gadget to cover it.

And we will all have them hidden away.

its because the first thing that gets taken out in a proper war is all the satellites

The cruise missiles are totally self sufficient and scan the ground looking for patterns that match their database and use this for navigation !!

Alot of assumptions have been made here I actually live way out in the countryside the nearest built up area is about 9 miles away. Almost every road is a national speed limit and the afore mentioned gang of fist shaking old people seem to congregate along a stretch of very wide and fast country road just to check if people are sticking to a 60mph limit. This is mostly due to the noise caused by bikes with loud cans screaming past their houses at 150mph.
I totally agree with driving to speed limits in built up residential areas and around schools etc etc but in national speed limit areas I choose to drive at whatever speed I deem to be safe. If these people were conducting their anti speed campaign outside a school then I feel that they would be doing some good and therefore not make a mockery out of them.

Which one? Silkworm? ACM?

And remember GPS was introduced to Cruise because TERCOM performed so badly... Even consumer 20cm of CEP is sufficient for payload delivery, and if you add in the relative costs of the APGCN you have a compelling delivery system. So why haven't Cruise become much more widespread...?

thumbup Sorry for the misunderstanding but the way it read it did sound more likely to be a populated area. To be fair it's mostly our biking friends who I have had to retrieve bits of from various bushes, ditches etc, cars are usually a mangled wreck containing the somewhat mangled or burned remains of the people withineek

However, from what you say, you and I hold similar views on speed and road safety so enjoy your car. I'm damn sure I'm going to enjoy mine in the same way, when it eventually arrives
