Hi Guys,

After owning an Audi S3,S4 and RS4 my job moved away so i choose the 535D for the econamy/power and i have to say i am very impressed, since i had it mapped it is very fast and cheap to run averging 37 - 42MPG, however....

I am a true Petrolhead and even though the deisel is extreamly fast it's simply 'missing somthing' and i can't put my finger on it, anyway

I have always wanted a 911 and was thinking of selling/swapping my car to purchase a 997 series 911,

Due to a relocation with work i no longer have the need for the 535D, as i'll be working much more locally, so econamy is not that important

TO be honest im pretty green in he 911 arena and would love some advice on what 35K could get me, there are so many models and variants a guy at work owns the 3.2 and told me to go for the more powerful plant...

am i mad?, am i crazy? can any of you relate to that 'somthing' i am missing from the driving experiance in the 535d,my RS4 was just a beutiful car to own,

Many Thanks

Stephen

At that money, 993 Turbo. 400bhp, 4wd, tons of torque, tunable, last of the aircooled 911s, great looking....

They are around 10 years old not sure if this is an issue, You might miss the Torque of the 535 with anything naturally asprirated.

£35k wont get a 997
996 c2/ c4 will be slow compared to your rs4
personally id get a 964rs or lhd mk1 996 gt3 but i doubt you will based purely on your previous cars.
agree with previous poster - 993 turbo would be great

nothing but a 996 turbo will do for you, believe me and even then you'll be doing a 500bhp kit very quickly.

sorry guys, yes i meant 996.

SO am i right in thinking that my old 2001 RS4 would out perform many of the 996's except for the Turbo?

I would say so yes.Especially a lardy 996 like a c4s.I had to sell my c4s when a mate in an m3 cab stayed with it in a straight line.Get a 996tt and remove any chance of disappointmenteek

I do hear you on the M3 thing, that must have hurst, try and think of it this way

my take on that one is we could all go out and buy a chipped up turbo nutter mitsibushi Evo or Impreza for 15-18K that would be ubber brutal and not much could catch it,

but there is a certain image that is portrayed with those types of cars, absoutly no offence meant to anybody who owns these as they are very very respectable machines for what they are ideally made for 'rallying'....

My RS4 (MTM) used to destroy M3 CSL's, but it did it with style!

Im looking for something, fast, reliable, classie, and this is why im thinking of the 911 as i cannot afford the new RS4

Only a gt3,turbo or gt2 will be quicker than a m3csl so you will definately not be happy with a normally aspirated 911 if you want to have better performance than the rs4.For 35k an evo may be the best choice.

Or wrong - I'm sure he's heard of a Turbo but tt? Even my dealer doesn't call it that. Not everyone frequents our little Porsche world you know! Incidentally, what the hell's a Navara?..................

OK gather together 100 petrolheads & ask the question "what is a TT" I guarentee 90% will probably say its an Audi.

ask the same 100 what a 996tt is though and I'll bet most won't say Audi
