Thinking of buying a 911 so paid for a dealer inspect to see:

1. What it needed and
2. Whether I could get a warranty

2 main Points arising were:

Exhausts had a slight "rattle" on start up, Porsche reckoned the baffles were loose, although they acknowledged there was no noise or problems when the car was running, they insisted that to warrant the car the boxes had to be replaced with new - despte the fact they are no covered under warranty!

The rear tyres despite being speed rated for 190mph P zeros, didn't have an N rating so they also had to be repalced before they would warrant the car - again they are not coverd by the warranty!

Total bill for these items which to my mind are fine - £1500!!

Whats going on here, is it worth speaking to the Service manager or any other advice? This seems like lunacy in the extreme and will likely scupper the purchase of the car.

Agree to get them sorted if they'll warranty them. It's normally the brakes they say need changing.

Common sense usually prevails.

Dealer tend to trash other peoples cars so you go to them instead.
However it's true, N rated tyres are the only Porsche approved tyre (lots of makes to choose from) and you don't want to discover you're insurance isn't worth a light, when you have a claim as Porsche repairs are not inexpensive.
Re exhausts - they could be right and I expect the Porsche warranty says everthing has to be tickety boo before they will apply it.
Besides isn't this what you paid them for?

i did this, they said brake disks needed replacing and rear tires needed doing before they can put a warrant on the car, I said ill pay double for it to be done right now if they will warrant them, the guy said he will speak to his boss, came back and said fair enough, no issue, heres your warranty.

im a porsche technician the reason the tyres failed the inspection is that porsche stipulate that N tryes are fitted because there porsche approved. The warranty only overs mechanical failure nothing else really bet it is worth it in the respect that when the rear main oil seal leaks or the intermediate shaft goes then its 7 grand for an engine so it is worth it

Bizzare...

On my inspection, pointed out the RMS was sweating, put a warranty on, and promptly got the RMS fixed under warranty..
