Sorry this is a bit of a pathetic post but I'm really at a loss as to whats going wrong...

My 1.1 N-reg fiesta (other car is a chimera 5.0....which has been fine!) has been fine running about town up to now but suddenly died after a 40 min run to work today. It was as if the fuel supply had been slowly turned off. Re-started, ran for 20 seconds, then the same, the ran for 15 seconds etc etc. Left all day, managed to return home only to have a repeat perfromance 5 mins from home.

Seems to be fuel supply problem when hot.....any ideas...am very fed up with the dam thing

Hmmmm sounds very much like a carb problem to me.
Has it always done this, or only recently?
If youre a bit handy, you could take the top off the carb and check to see if theres any dirt or oxide built up in the float bowl.
Oxide that looks fluffy is a result of water contamination of the fuel.
Either way itd be a good idea first to do a basic check on plugs, dizzy cap and rotor arm and points(if fitted), followed by a check on the timing.
Rectify any faults that may be present in that system first.
Then check the carb, and fuel pump (mechanical) for pressure.
Shouldnt be less than about 3 psi for a carb.
Check for split/detached/leaking vacuum pipes, these can cause all sorts of problems.
Hope this helps.

thank you for the suggestions.....unfortunately it's fuel injected rather than carb, at least I'm 95% sure it is. If so, do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks again for the help.

Classic symptoms of a duff fuel pump relay - fails when it gets hot (say 30 mins into a journey), with the interval getting shorter as it gets worse and worse.

Yes, it's a Bosch metal cased relay in a blue flying socket, in the wiring loom over the passenger footwell. Oh you mean where is it in a Fiesta? Sorry, no idea, never owned one!

Failing that could also be a blocked tank breather, which would also cause fuel starvation after a period of running the car.

I had a similar problem with a blocked breather system on my Range Rover, one way to check it is, next time it cuts out, open the fuel filler cap if you hear a sucking noise, and it then runs ok for a while, its the breather system, its a quick and cheep check!!!

One more possibility, when was the fuel filter last changed?

Might also be symptomatic of a thermally-intermittent ignition coil.
