Tried this for the first time yesterday (996 C4) and I definitely felt an improvement from Optimax. Bit more torque and car felt generally more 'urgent'. Also, could be my imagination, but the sports exhaust sounded better too!

I've used Optimax exclusively for the last 4 years, so I reckon my engine's pretty clean anyway - but I'll monitor things like fuel consumption over the next few weeks.

Try it!!

I was under the impression that it took the ECU a while (i.e. a tank or two of the new stuff) to readjust and so to give any meaningful increase in power? That was certainly the case with my old car, the S2000.

I tend towards thinking that a lot of it is in the imagination. Can anyone REALLY claim that they can feel the difference of, say, 5 bhp?

And given that Optimax was supposely 98.6 RON (although I think I read that, in practice, Shell wouldn't claim it was anything more than 98 RON as it varied from load to load), is the difference between Optimax and 99 RON V Power going to be noticeable at all....?

Dunno. I raise it more as a question than as a statement of fact. Anyone out there know enough about MON/RON and how ECUs adapt to differing grades of petrol to offer a more informed view?

Put a tank full in my 996TT at the weekend, was run only on Optimax before.
I think there is a difference, car feels little more urgent, responsive. Might be my imagination but certainly feels better on the new fuel.
In a similar vein I had tried Tesco 99 about 6 months ago & the car hated it, felt lumpy & rough on it, so while I agree 5bhp is not going to get noticed its more the way the car "likes" the fuel that can be felt rather than any increase in BHP (as there probably isn't any)

Tankful in mine at the weekend, only thing I noticed so far is that it was cheaper than the last time I filled up.

Only done about five miles in it since though.

Just a quick thought. When you fill up with 98ron how do you know you are getting it?Could a dodgy garage owner sell normal unleaded and badge it as 98ron?The reason I am suspicious is because when I filled up with super unleaded at a supermarket at the weekend(normally use the local garage and optimax),the car felt a little more responsive.
