I bought a Boxster S last weekend.

The original warranty runs out it November, I can extend this for another year for about £700. Does anyone have a few on if this is worth doing?

YES. Just renew the Porsche Warranty. I assume it is a Porsche Warranty... if not... get one of those instead.

I have renewed the warranty on mine twice.

Since I started renewing it - nothing has gone wrong. So in that sense, no, it hasn't been "worth it".

However - I can renew the thing right up until the car is ten years old or done 100,000 miles. At my current mileage rate it will get to the ten years first.

During this time if the engine goes pop or anything else similarly large and expensive breaks Porsche will fit me a new one at no additional cost.

If you look at it this way: The car cost me new £45K or so. For an additional £6K they'll fix anything that breaks for ten years. Bargain. In addition I ten years European breakdown cover and the comfort of knowing that my broken car would go straight to the nearest OPC to get fixed - F.O.C.

Its the nature of insurance. You take it out hoping you'll never need it.

On the other hand.....I didn`t bother with mine. I have AA cover anyway through other cars and I took a punt which proved successful.

I bought mine new though and was extremely pernickety during the initial warranty phase to have absolutely everything done that could be. I took the view that my car looked like a goodun` (no RMS etc) so why give my OPC more money that they were already receiving.

Thanks everyone, although the idea of saving £700 (especially after just buying the car)is appealing I think I'll take the prudent approach

I'd like to request that everyone clears the A3 tomorrow so that I can have a clear drive in my new motor .... fair!?

Porsche are saying your car will not break and are prepared to fix any repair for £700 if it does. You pay £700 because you think the engine is going to blow up and £700 for a new engine is cheap.£700 times 10 years is £7000 which is 2 engines. Its about fear.Just pay the £700 and enjoy your Porsche.
