911 Virgin in mileage shocker!
Discussion
I'm shocked at the mileage full stop!
I own a 997 S (2wd) and you cannot get me out of it!
these cars are for driving, enjoying and using...not to be
looked at. The other thing is a normal mileage car is a much
better option, the brakes would have bedded in, engine thrashed more--operated at full spectrum of its design temps etc....
What a harsh bunch you are. There I was enjoying a potter round the Northampton countryside when one of your number alerted me to the fact I was being hounded, nay attacked, on these very pages.
Come on chaps, an 8 week old car is a tiny bit different from a 15 year old one. On the assumption that all 8 week old cars are the same all we have to distinguish them by are the random details.
As I have always said the rules are simple, the number on the speedo dictates the most you can ask for a car - hence we ask the question when offered a car, the condition dictates the price up to that point. The problem is that with older cars (over say 6 or 8 years) the rules don`t always stack up. For example I can think of a couple of 964`s we`ve had in over the years that have (justifiably) commanded large prices both in the buying and selling but where judged on the number on the speedo you`d think us mad.
We traditionally sell "older" modern cars where condition is the number one priority. As an example we have just put a Turbo 4 on the site, earlier in the week we were offered a similar car with 10k less on the clock and yet we rejected it. Why? surely we`d rather stock the car with a lower number on the speedo - because it was an absolute dog, sold 4 or 5 years ago by us, unserviced since bar a big bill for some remedial work. Repo`d by the finance company (we saw the car just before it was repo`d and couldn`t even see the carpet for an inch of fag ash and soil). As for driving it then it was in a truely awfull state!
The car we bought is in great shape for the age and price, properly maintained in in good servicable condition.
It`s hard to put an age on where the number on the speedo becomes secondary in valuing a car but it`s probably around 3 years old. Certainly by 6 or 7 years old it is more of a passing interest. Yes, if you find a 20 year old car with 10k mls on the speedo then potentially you can ask a premium for it because it appeals to a collector but that`s all.
Anyway looking on the bright side the sun finally broke through the drizzle and my Northampton potter turned out to be a pleasant day after all. I even got treated to a can of pop and a bar of chocolate !!

Point taken old boy...............but!
Assume for a moment one was interested in Midnight Blue 993tt's, around '96 with close on 6 figure mileage covered. Let's assume one had to part with c. £35,000 for said machine and that one covers 10,000 miles per annum.
Long way down from £35,000 after 3 years and 35,000 more miles don't you think?
Maybe I should buy a Skoda torbo diesel
