AP calliper mounting - rear

Has anyone(other than me!)experienced difficulty mounting the rear AP callipers?

The mounting bracket has a 2 recessed areas that look like they should fit around the two lobes on the hub...except I'm going to have to file away the some of the hub lobes to get them to fit. Diagram supplied with the AP brakes suggest fitting in this orientation too.

HOWEVER...All the pictures from the factory show the recesses away from the lobes and the flat face against the hub..I've tried this orientation as a dry fit but then the calliper is offset and doesn't sit centrally around the brake disc!

Filing looks to be my favoured option at the moment!

When you say the hub, I assume you mean the upright? If anything needs to be filed, I would be inclined to file the bracket as it is a less expensive item to replace should needs be but I am surprised at your discovery. At the end of the day, it may not be a satisfactory situation but it is a kit car after all, so if it needs to be modified, crack on!.

Yes..sorry I meant upright! My concern is that if I install the bracket's like all the photos I've seen then the callipers don't fit centrally over the disk..not perfect. I'm wondering if the AP kit has changed recently..?

I would not file anything until you have spoken to the factory.
There will be differences in machined castings but think it unlikely you would need to file anything. From memory the instructions also talk about using washers as shims to align the caliper. Would this work?

The things WILL fit (albeit with an offset) if I install as per the manual but this contradicts the AP info/diagrams...which seems to be a better mechanical arrangement and puts less stress on the alloy casting.

You are trying to mount them on the correct side of the hub?
The AP caliper is at the front and the handbrake at the back.

Edit. I also remember trying to fit one on the wrong side (near/off).

I went through the same thought process. I have the recess on the mounting brackets facing away from the hub. It did look like there would be an offset when I first dry fitted everything. After I tightened up the brake disk with wheel nuts and washers, installed the pads and did a final fit (torque and loctite) on the calliper retaining bolts it all fitted mm perfect.

I only held the disc on by hand for the dry fit..even though it seems well in place. I'll call the factory and maybe try again tomorrow with washers and nuts and see how it ends up...Just can't get it out of my head that the AP diagram shows the bracket the other way round...and the brake system was design specifically for the Ultima...and those recesses seem to be shaped awfully like the lobes on the upright!!

I was equally confused when I mounted mine - the spacer brackets and lobes appear to be counterintuitive - however ignore the lobes and do not file the hub carrier under any circumstance.

You will only achieve the correct spacing to the rotors if the spacer brackets are mounted correctly - test fit first over the rotors and you will notice how they go together.
