Legitimate days hooning...

Keen to organise a days hooning with a variety of friends old enough to know better - and looking for a suitable venue within about an hours drive of Southampton. Not looking for a track day - more a large enough area for us all to have a go at drifting etc... in our cars. If we can find somewhere large enough one chap wants to hoon in his racing truck!

Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Anyone know if the Top Gear test track is available for hire - or even what its called?

For your info, the track Top Gear use is Dunsfold (an old airfield) near Guildford in Surrey.
Google it- don't know about booking it..

Hmm, drifting, each to their own I guess.

If you're planning on organising this, the first thing I would say is: liability insurance.

I'm sure that all official venues will insist on liability insurance - certainly agree its a necessity!

AFAIK, the Top Gear track is a figure of eight, so not suitable for track days/etc.

And like another poster said, your biggest problem is going to be public liability insurance. IMO, you'd be better off approaching one of the existing track day firms for a group booking ...

AFAIK track day companies have a major sense of humour if you start to indulge in oversteer practice... Not looking for a track necessarily - more a large open space where we can explore our car's (and race truck's!) handling without too much risk.

Bruntingthorpe track is a large area,we was there yesterday lot's of room on track i think you would be able to drift there no problem lots of room on the corner's!

If i remember brunters is a concrete track, those nutters that drift need a smooth tarmac i think

Thanks - had a look at their website and it looks ideal - a bit further than I'd intended, but I'll get in touch with them and see how the costs work out...
